Abarth Forging Ahead as the only Mid-Engine Roadster

There are reports circulating that Abrath is getting its own sports car, a first since Fiat revived the brand. Now reports are suggesting that the Scorpion marquee could partner with either Lotus or KTM on the development of a mid-engine roadster. However, recent disagreements indicate that Abarth could be going at it alone with this new model. The issue with KTM is that its carbon-fiber X-Bow is too expensive for the price that Fiat wants.

Lotus could have been a viable option and alternative, but there are personal reasons why that won't be happening. As a result, Abarth could build a Lotus Elise rival on its own, and it could be powered by a MultiAir engine mated to the new dual-clutch gearbox they've been working on. It's still unclear how this could affect Fiat's push to integrate products and platforms across Fiat and Chrysler, but we're hoping that they'll go through with it.
