is wasting no time when it comes to rally racing events. After three consecutive Dakar Rally wins, the German automaker is feeling pretty good about itself these days and their confidence is showing at the Qatar Motor Show. For the event, Volkswagen is planning to show off not one, but two special concept Touaregs. The first one is the Race Touareg 3 Qatar, which is designed to be a street-legal version of the rally racer that took the latest Dakar victory.
Powered by the same 300 hp 2.5-liter TDI, it has gold-colored BBS wheels instead of the 16-inchers on the racer. The interior features revised ergonomics with matte carbon fiber trim and a Serpetino Grey Metallic role cage, Recaro racing buckets, and door panels that are trimmed in Nubuk with perforated Nappa leather black, grey, and red. Bottom line: the most formidable competitor yet to the Ford
Raptor, if it makes production. The second Touareg concept is called the Gold Edition, because, as you can surely guess, is decked out in gold.
Not just any gold, but 24-karat gold throughout. You'll find it coating the 22-inch wheels, roof rails, window frames, door mirrors, and parts of the front air intake. The pot of gold spreads to the interior where it's found on many of the accents and switches. There's also an Alcantara roofliner, Nappa leather seats, and even bits of Walnut Burr accents in an ornamental pattern. Will either go on sale? Unlikely, but due to the Ford Raptor's sales success, anything is possible in terms of a Touareg equivalent.
