The Clean Diesel Jaguar XF Makes it across America at 62.9mpg

The Jaguar XF has completed its jaunt across the States, needing to refill at the pump only 4 times.

Eight days and four fuel stops were all that was needed for brothers David and Alexander Madgwick to cross the entirety of the U.S.A. in their clean diesel Jaguar XF. The tandem trekked across 11 states from New York to Los Angeles and crossed three time-zones. The 2.2-liter diesel XF required only four trips to the gas station as they achieved an impressive average fuel-economy of 62.9mpg on the 2,884 mile journey.

The same team ran the same car earlier this year from the UK to Munich and achieved 57mpg from the efficient Jaguar. XF Project Manager Paul Alcock said of the journey: "This project was designed primarily to test the potential economy of the XF 2.2. The incredible figures achieved by the car were accomplished through making every element of the new XF as efficient as possible - from its aerodynamics to its four-cylinder 2.2-litre diesel engine linked to an eight-speed gearbox. The whole XF team is incredibly proud of what's been achieved and it's a graphic demonstration of the strength, engineering integrity and efficiency of the car."

The British automaker has stated time and again that the Jaguar XF isn't ready for the U.S. market, as the American idea of diesels isn't quite were it needs to be for the Brits to release their ride over on these shores yet. The XF 2.2 diesel will definitely be going on sale in the UK and Europe, which is where the luxury brand plans to stay for the time being.
