Fisker Karma Prices Up 6 Percent for 2012

Fisker has announced a fairly large price increase for their extended range plug-in Karma for 2012.

Fisker Automotive, the youngest automotive brand in North America, will raise its cars prices by average 6 percent as of December 15th, according foxnews.com. The price for the 2012 Eco Standard, the base model, will be $102,500, up $6,600. For the top of the line and most expensive model, the Eco Chic, the price will soar to $116,000. Like the Chevrolet Volt, the Karma is a plug-in hybrid range-extender with a maximum range of 300 miles and an electric driving range of up to 50 miles.

While no exact reason was given for the price hike, we can't say we're totally surprised. Recently the TUV, Germany's famous inspection institution, tested the Karma and claimed that it had a fuel consumption of 98 mpg in an urban area, 118 mpg in an extra urban and a combined cycle of 112 mpg and emits 51 g/km CO2. So does it manage to accomplish these numbers? It's equipped with two electric motors, one for each of the rear wheels, a 20.1 kWh lithium-ion battery, and a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter gasoline motor. Total output is 400hp and a massive amount of available torque of 959 lb-ft. Top speed is 125 mph and a 0-60 mph time of 6.3 seconds.
