Rumor: Cadillac Gets Green Light For Upcoming XTS Sedan

Cadillac has given the green light to name its next flagship successor. The upcoming XTS is expected to lead the way as the most ideal candidate and will make its public debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November.

There has been a lot of speculation for a while as to which model Cadillac will turn into its next flagship. With the STS and DTS no longer in production, Cadillac had to quickly name their successor. And now they apparently have. According to a recent report by GM Inside Line, Cadillac has given the green light for a flagship sedan. And as expected, the upcoming rear-wheel drive XTS sedan is the likely candidate.

The XTS will use a platform known as Omega and will likely be a larger version of the Zeta architecture that composes the current Chevrolet Camaro and Caprice PPV. The new flagship will most likely be offered with all-wheel drive and a choice of either a V6 or V8 engine. The XTS Platinum concept featured a 3.6-liter V6 plug-in hybrid that produced 350hp. However, the Cadillac XTS will act more as a temporary flagship replacement until the automaker produces an even larger sedan.

According to Cadillac's Global Marketing Director James R. Vurpillat, "our priority is to get the segments covered....then we can start thinking of cars in the S-Class and 7-Series range. I'd like to have a car like the concept Cadillac Sixteen." For now, the XTS will make its first public debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November.
