Frankfurt 2011: Ford Fiesta ST Concept

Ford's concept for a spoier version of the Fiesta hatchback made its debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show.

Are you upset that VW doesn't bring the awesome Polo GTI over to the US? Well, they still aren't going to, but now Ford plans to give you the opportunity to buy a similar vehicle from them, and not just in the US. For the Fiesta ST, Ford is squeezing a 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine into the ST, complete with 180hp and 177lb-ft of torque. The turbocharged four-banger is mated to a six-speed manual transmission and makes the ST capable to getting to 62mph in under 7 seconds.

The ST looks good too, arguably even better than Polo GTI which it will compete with in certain markets. Ford is quick to point out that the little hot hatch draws inspiration from Ford's highly successful Fiesta RS WRC rally car. The ST isn't quite as powerful as the rally car, obviously, but we're still looking forward to Ford putting it into production. If the Focus ST is any indicator, the production version should be pretty much the same as the concept being shown in Frankfurt.
