2013 Chevrolet Malibu Engine Details Released

Chevy has released the engine details for the 2013 Malibu making its way to the States next summer.

After photos leaked earlier this year of the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, it turns out the American company is being a good sport and releasing their engine details a full two years ahead of its expected launch. The Malibu will run on an all-new Ecotec 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. The motor is said to be more powerful than the previous Ecotec 2.4-liter that it will supplant and it is more efficient and cleaner. The new engine is expected to get 30mpg on the highway.

"The noise intensity is 40 percent less than our 2.4L direct-injected engine, which was named one of Ward's 10 Best Engines. Engineers also tuned the 2.5L to deliver more of its torque at lower rpm, giving the Malibu a stronger feel at launch and during on-demand maneuvers, such as passing or accelerating on a freeway entrance ramp," said Global Chief Engineer Mike Anderson in a press release. The motor will put out 190hp and 180lb-ft of torque. The motor will keep some of its predecessor's best qualities, like direct-injection, variable valve timing, electronic throttle control and pistons with jet-spray oil coating.

The 2013 Chevrolet Malibu will arrive in the States next summer.
