2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe Officially Unveiled at Detroit

The 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe has received a facelift and some new technology under the hood.

Hyundai is making their mark on the 2012 Detroit Auto Show, starting with their refreshed 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe. The coupe's two powertrain options have been spruced up significantly and adds to the luster of the South Korean automaker's latest unveiling. Starting under the hood, the 3.8-liter V6-engined variant adds direct injection into its system, given it a power output of 348hp and 296 lb-ft of torque.

This gives the coupe a significant boost from its predecessor, which put out a paltry-in-comparison 306hp and 266 lb-ft of torque. Performance for the V6 is said to be a 0-60mph time in just over five seconds. The turbocharged 4-cylinder option gains a brand-new twin-scroll turbocharger and an intercooler setup, making its output jump to 274hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. The previous numbers for the 2.0T coupe measured at 201hp and 223 lb-ft of torque. Both engine options are paired to an optional and slightly more efficient eight-speed automatic tranny.

The pairs' previous six-speed manual gearbox is retained as well. In terms of styling and the like, the Genesis Coupe has some aggressive new design lines and seven new choices for coloring the exterior. New LED-enhanced taillights and optional LED daytime running lights also add to the impressive coupe's mid-cycle refresh. It sits on a set of either new 18- or 19-inch wheels. Along with technical upgrades such as a faster steering rack and revised damper settings, the Coupe gets the automaker's BlueLink telematics system, what they say is an upgrade to OnStar.
