Continuing a 60-year tradition the SL blends performance with style and comfort, but for the first time is produced almost entirely from aluminum.

While the sixth-generation SL may look very similar to the outgoing fifth-generation roadster, there are plenty of subtle tweaks both inside and out, such as the LED daytime running lamps, to distinguish it by. The same power folding hardtop remains on the two-seat roadster, but can now be had with Magic Sky Control so that at the push of a button the electrochromatic glass with variable opacity can switch between light and dark.

With an all-new aluminum structure and other intelligent details comes a 275-pound weight reduction from its predecessor, while power comes from Mercedes' 4.6-liter twin-turbo V8 delivering 429hp and 516lb-ft of torque. This is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed auto transmission and
0-60mph is now managed in a swift 4.5 seconds, down from 5.2 seconds in the old SL550, and top speed is limited to 130mph. Seen here is the limited edition 'Edition 1' launch spec, wearing 19-inch AMG alloys, designo leather, AIRSCARF, and Harman/Kardon surround sound system.

Designo crystal leather magno special paint wraps the new SL and the exclusive interior is design classic red/black with black piano lacquer wood trim. The 2013 SL550 will be arriving in US showrooms this spring, with pricing details to be announced sometime before then.
