Porsche Reveals 911 Cabrio to the Crowds at Detroit

After the coupe's unveiling at Frankfurt, Porsche officially launches their all-new 911 Cabriolet at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show.

Porsche has unveiled their all-new 911 Cabrio at this year's Detroit Auto Show. Although official pictures and stats were revealed in November, Porsche chose Detroit as the venue to reveal the latest generation of their iconic convertible.

Like the coupe, the base Carrera is powered by a standard 3.4-liter flat-six that produces 345hp while the Carrera S comes complete with a larger 3.8-liter with 394hp. Both engines can be mated to either a seven-speed manual or an optional seven-speed PDK dual-clutch.

Compared to the outgoing model, the new Cabrio has a longer wheelbase, wider front track and new electro-mechanical power steering that ensure greater precision and agility. The new topless 911 features lightweight technology that enables the typical 911 roofline to be retained in full for the first time. Even with the top closed, the Cabrio has the same silhouette as its coupe sibling. According to the official press release, the German automaker has managed to reverse the weight spiral and make the new Cabrio much lighter than its predecessor.

The newly designed power top can be raised or lowered at speeds of up to 31 mph. There's even a wind deflector that can deploy in only a few seconds. Basically, this is sun friendly German engineering at its finest.
