Shelby American is showing off three 50th anniversary special edition models in Detroit.
Shelby American is currently celebrating their 50th anniversary at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. To mark the special occasion, the American automaker produced three special 50th anniversary edition automobiles. They are the GTS, the GT 350 and the GT 500 Super Snake. The three Mustang-based automobiles will be produced in a limited run, as Shelby is making only 100 units of each car - half of which will be white and the other half will be black.
Slick gold striping denoting the 50th anniversary celebration will adorn each model. All the special edition cars will also receive 50th anniversary badging around the car and inside it. They adorn everything from the seat backs to the floor mats and out onto the exterior of the car. "Our golden anniversary is a remarkable milestone worthy of this limited edition line of Shelby vehicles. On the heels of the unprecedented sellout of our 50th Anniversary Edition Cobra 289, we expect demand for these new Shelby's to be strong," said John Luft, president of Shelby American.
The base 50th Anniversary GTS model runs a cool $9,995 on top of the Mustang's original price. It is available with either a V6 or a V8. The mid-level 50th Anniversary GT 350 runs on a 5.0-liter V8 engine with either 430hp, 525hp or 624hp. It is modestly priced, listing $26,996 for the naturally-aspirated version or $33,995 for the supercharged variant. The GT 500 Super Snake is the premier model of the bunch, running on a 750hp 5.0-liter V8. The high-end model features carbon fiber spoilers and larger 6 piston front brakes.
Pricing for the Super Snake starts just shy of $60K, however there is also an optional 800hp version that you can expect to pay considerably more for if you so desire. Shelby American is known to make amazing cars, so you can bet that their special anniversary editions will be even more spectacular than their standard counterparts. All three models are currently on display now at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
