My daily drive: ford falcon (yes I'm in Australia) 4L inline 6. The day I got it drove 700km on 3/4 of a tank (68 litre tank) that is just under 40mpg for those playing in the US. Oh and it's a 1994 model!!!
I think a lot of people forget that the 3 series is not just a basic sedan. There a bunch of configurations for the sedan and coupe.
I'll agree with that Philip. That sounds about right. And I don't know or any gas engine 3 Series that gets 40mpgs. Maybe a diesel but not a gas engine.
GM has actually been saying it will get better than 30 mpg highway. I'm going to go on record and say it will get 33, not class leading but still better than Mercedes C class and Lexus IS.
Funny how there is no mention to time of laps etc ... When will people admit that the 3 series sedan is BORING?

The accord sedan gets like 34 mpg. Someone needs to do something about the Japanese auto industry.
I understand mpg is important but if ur that serious... this isn't the place for you.
That is good for a mid size sedan that is optioned up like this is. Yes, there are cars that get much better mpg but not in this class.

The M3 is a 3 series. How many people here have seen more women drive one. That's what I thought. Back to the Caddy... It looks aggressive and performance oriented, and will give the 3 series a run for it's money.
I've had a couple bmws and my parents also had a 98 528i while sister had 2000 323i. Both were very fun reliable cars.
Maybe if there wasn't a union around that would demand too much compensation for too little work, maybe domestic car brands wouldn't turn to Canada or Mexico for labor. Oh, did I type that out loud?

A trimmed out escalade goes for 80,000 even though i should know, a friend of mine had one, she bought it because she felt like she was important and a year later she went bankrupt. Look up consumer reports see where cadillacs rank.
I hate Cadillac. Why? Because they are a false statues symbol and because of that people drive not as a car but as a throne ( BMW and Audi are just as guilty) and because of this they are overpriced.
Just today, I've seen 5 3 series, all we're women. 2 of them were probably not even 20 years old! Just bc it has a BMW badge on it, doesn't make it the best.

@ James, in my mind, caddy's are (old people cars) you don't see any young people driving them, and I'm talking even 35-45year old business men, they all drive merc, audi, BMW and Acura!!! NOT CADDY, same wit Lincoln and Buick, they scream (old people cars)
How many of you who are hating on BMW's have ever owned one or driven one for more then a short test drive? Regardless of the badge, they are great cars all around.

This car will be a success. It looks good & has power. It will be priced either comparable or slightly less than the comp. The V Atx is going to be nasty!

Anyway IMO it's cool to have an alternative to stand out from the crowd. It's all down to opinions. And btw BMWs are very easy to work on. I used to work at a BMW garage and it's very straight forward. Simpler than Mercedes or VW that's for sure

Caddy might give you more as standard. I don't doubt it. But BMW is for cars what Adidas is for shoes. I mean yes another make might be a cool alternative but people tend to like mainstream stuff and play conservative.

The people who can actually afford the premium cars do test drive and compare and choose the ones that are better. I for one went with Lexus. I was disappointed with BMW and Benz. The price categories were pretty much comparable.
There are too many myths about BMWs look at last years sales in the US market. They has less that 2% of the market share! If they are so great why are they struggling? Why has other premium car brands have out sold the BMW?
So GM who owns Opel have been very successful selling cars in the EU including Germany. So believe it that Cadillac will have a strong presence in the EU with their options of fuel saving engines.
What you guys don't realize is the pricing strategy of GM in the rest of the world. You realize that BMWs cost far less in the US. But this Cadillac will be very competitive in EU and no England is not part of the EU. They have their own pricing here

1. Nobody here has enough experience with the ATS to say its better than anything. Unless you were on the development team... 2. America makes better cars now, or at least it really really seems that way. 3. BMW has dominated the 3 Series' segment
I believe Cadillac has a 3-Series beater here but the real challenge is getting a sales foothold in the European market.

This look better than the 3 series, but it 'a not going to be as good as BMW. I think this Who is better is going to far. Nobody has probably tested the car just yet so just have to wait and see. But history said nothing can beat the M3.

Yea German engineering isn't that reliable, let's use a Benz for example, there Reliability is like 70/100, it's not that great but it's not terrible either.
Bottom line: You get a HELL of a lot more for your money with an ATS than you do a 3 Series. No one can negate that fact.

Not if you have warranty. My buddy's warranty on his 335i is amazing covers everything
Well I've known people who have had constant problems with their 3 Series and those are A LOT more expensive in every way to fixed or work on.
So I've never worked on em, I know people who've owned both, and the people who own or owned the american lux cars weren't very pleased with them and it was totally opposite for the people with the German lux, they loved em... And I do know 3 people who went from American lux to German lux and were very happy they changed

ATS > 3 series. BMWs are over priced. Driven a few BMWs. Have never been impressed. Mean while every Caddy I have ever been in has impressed me... Except my friends junky 80's Caddy.
The ATS comes standard with Magnetic Ride Control. How bad*ss is that? This is going to have way more things standard than any 3 Series and you won't have to pay an arm and a leg for optional things that should already be standard. ATS > 3 Series.

I'd prefer the ATS over the 3 series. The new 3 series is just horrendous. And it's incredibly over priced.
