ha, both of those would likely save my clutch, not destroy it. double clutching by the way is how you down shift a non synchronous gearbox. not necessary for any automotive transmission you would likely ever operate.
@max I think it's that you are granny shifting not double clutching like you should and your lucky that 28lbs of boost didn't blow the welds on the intake.
cut me off... clutches go quick if you launch or track, so its an expensive hobby. if you plan on tuning a car, set a goal and do it in one shot. saves money in the long run, but turbos are worthless without appropriate supporting mods. do your homework and get it right the first time
@Tim I also have a Stealth TT, it's a 2nd gen '94 and although it may not be the fastest thing out there it still runs high 13's. Mostly stock besides intake and exhaust. Great and fun year round car.

straight pipes custom Turbo header bbk full Turbo ported head s2 cams 3inch fmic aps twin vent bov exedy twin hd clutch and dual map, 26 lbs on 93 with 446 awhp and 28 lbs on e85 with 489 awhp more power in it, but running stock internals and its my dd. but I run high tens/low 11s pretty consistently with trap speeds a lil over 130, but its real prowess is def on the track... I beat the hell...

I've heard the fq400's have some pretty bad lag... Their turbos are just too big for a 2.0L engine.... I've seen an fq400 with a sequential set up that had A LOT less lag then the stock single turbo though
Stock Evo suffer from horrible turbo lag because they use a large high pressure turbo, and the motor alone Doesn't have much power down low but man, once that turbo spools things fly
Aaron, yea in a sense if it's the sequential design like some of the new cars have today.
a stroked evo will spool up a large Turbo quicker but it is what it is. everything has pros and cons... my evo makes makes 370 awhp by 3200 rpms, but 489 at 7200 and holds 480 till 9000 rpm. still gets over 20 MPG running ethanol. wish it was rwd but it is what it is.
Would twin turbos fix the lag problem? Probably lose so much top end though.
In the beginning of the dyno pull it has major turbo lag because they probably run an excessive amount of boost to get 700hp. That's why it has low numbers from the start and then jumps way up.
It's uses a turbo and doesn't get that big rush of hp till the top end when the turbo really spools up.
That's why they get tuned. Unless it was tuned that way for a specific purpose
I love the Evo, my only problem is the usable power for these high horsepower cars is so small. Saw a 700 hp Evo in the magazine and the dyno chart didn't show anything until roughly the last 2000 rpm or so when it went astronomical. Still amazing.
The FQ400 was faster than the gallardo at that time saw it on top gear :D
a good tuner can squeeze close to 400 bhp out of a stock evo VIII and I've heard of I x's at 350 to the wheels. with about 7 k invested you can slaughter gtrs and with a decent rear diff tear corners apart usdm evos do not have sayc but Japan and UK models have had sayc since the evo v but many drivers opt for a more robust diff, personally I can't stand sayc it may be great when you become accu...

Yah it's really going downhill for the EVO. I really don't see why they have to ruin every sports car by putting a hybrid in every single one of them now. It's really annoying actually.

The best looking Evo IMO. It has a turbo the size of Tokyo and would eat a gallardo for breakfast in the twisties.
This one rocks, swap out the 90s looking white wheels for some dark anthracite and we got a winner.
TE-37's go good on almost every car. They are classics as well as my favorite wheel

I love STIs but i love Evos more :) had many opportunities to drive both and Evo is just more my cup of tea in the handling department. It is rough on long roadtrips though!

I have no experience with STi trimmed Subies, so I cannot speak to them. But man, that X MR can move. It didn't have a spoiler, nothing over the top, so it was basically a sleeper because to the untrained eye, it's a Lancer.
A neighbour took me for a ride in his 2011 Evolution X MR (?) with the 6 speed SST gearbox, and I gotta tell you, that thing can move. And it handles as it were on rails - I was very impressed.

If they made an Evo hatch I would maybe buy it but for now, the STI hatch for me.
The STIs do better at my local RallyX. I think it has to do with lower center of gravity and overall weight on technical courses. However, an Evo X is a much more attractive car than 3rd gen Impreza (08-11)
I have an 06 wrx it's what I could afford. I love the car like my child. But in all out performance the Evo with its iron block" I think it still has" is easier to strap upgrades on get gain big numbers. Subarus are more temperamental.
From what I hear Subie's Boxer engine is a lot more reliable than Mitsu's I4?
Needs are. I like the STI more though. Especially the 06-07 model.
The STI has a more comfortable interior and more low end torque which is good for daily driving, but the Evo has more supportive seats from factory and makes more power mod for mod compared to the STI. So I guess it's all preference and what your
STi hatchback for me. One of my fave Japs and the best part of it is, they're only offered in a manual.
I love me some Subaru, but in this debate I'd go Evo strictly based on styling. They're so close performance and price wise that styling would tip the scale in Mitsubishi's favor

I took evo over an sti it was a tough choice but for my money the evo does the job better. but the sti is still beast, problem is, over 300 HP your replacing crank rods pistons and head.
Evos can look so clean and so good in dark colors. STis are still sick, but I like evo best.
I'd definitely take the EVO over an STi.

The Evo to me is a much more serious car where as I feel I could have more fun with the STi. With this I mean if I were to go to a track I'd take an Evo. If I were to drive around on the street id prefer the STi. Both are great cars.
2007+ I would go with the Evo, 2007 down I'd go sti.. I just don't like the new sti AS much as the old ones, I still like them though
Scooby 100% for me, can't beat that boxer rumble, plus it's reliability is supreme
However I do like to see an Evo 9 or X on rpf1's with some meaty tires, dropped just a bit to even the gap all the way around, those cars are hard to beat in the looks dept.
It's hard to say but I think I'd take the Sti, the rumble is nice, and the newest version looks good. The Evo x also looks good but it's the Sti for me. Older Sti gymkhana videos are probably what sells me the most.
I say STi ONLY because it also comes in a hatchback.
evo wins engine and drive train all day long, but hate to say sti takes looks and sound.

I'm not much of an import guy but I do own a rebadged Mtisubishi 3000GT VR4 so I'm a bit biased towards the Evo... But I think the STI is great. Apples and oranges really.
I'm not a big fan of Japanese cars, but I totally respect the Evo and Sti. So asking the carbuzz faithful... Which do you prefer? The Evo or Sti?
