Wonder how much the markup will be for these. I believe I seen a bottom of the line model for 33k at a dealer. A markup of the same caliber would put this at like 50k.
They should upgrade the brakes to handle that new power. You'd think they'd at least do that for the show car.

Awd makes handling better?? Because a Lamborghini handles well then it must be true. By that logic all f1 cars should be Awd. The systems you speak of are costly and heavy both of which are the exact opposite of the entire concept of the 86.buy a wrx
@Davin Lamborghinis are mid engine so AWD doesn't make the the front end that heavy but since the BRZ is front engine it would have a huge front biased. AWD defeats the purpose of this car it's supposed to be light, nimble, and agile.
As I said before people you can dream in one hand and you can poo in the other, see which hand fills quicker. I like rumors, but I LOVE facts!!!!
If you want to drift corners all day then by all means RWD only. But if you want to pull out of corners and off the line then you can't beat AWD. Especially in something this light. I love RWD cars but IMO this car should be offered in AWD option.
Anyone who thinks this car wouldn't be cool AWD is nuts. Sure it would change how the car handles, it would handle better... I'm sure you think an AWD Lamborghini is dumb too because it handles different. It also gets from 0-60 faster.
Shelby, he may be on crack but I don't know what you're smoking. A cayman starts out around 53k. You are right though, the whole point of buying a Subaru is to have the performance without the price tag.
@Chase. Are you on crack? The cayman costs around 70k base price. Add tax and dealer markups it is probably close to an 80k car. That would be a terrible business decision on Subaru's part. It would have to be VERY fast to reach that price range.
That all great, but do you know what I really want to see? A model that just straight up goes for the Cayman S/R. This is along the lines of a Mustang GT/370 Z and I'm sure they'll do fine against them, but with all those dynamic bench marks they had against the Cayman, I just want to see version with around 300-350 horsepower and more serious hardware.
@Corey There's no way a car lower class than the 370 is going to give the BRZ STI a run for its money. It has almost the same power as a 370 with a lot less weight. It's gonna be quick dude. Probably 5 second 0-60.
@carlos 5.0 will be cheaper, have more power, and that wonderful V8 sound. Its not gonna handle like the brz though
I am a muscle car guy but if they make a BRZ STI it will sell very well and be crazy fun to drive! Lets see what they do with pricing ?? Hope this becomes a reality!
Here these rumors often, seen this same car at the 2010 LA Auto Show. I'll believe when I see it.
@Aaron depends on what you're looking for. If you don't want to get your hands dirty, have power right out of the box then Brz. If you want serious power, like to work on your car, and drive a higher class vehicle then 370z.
I was pretty close to flaming the AWD comment by David down there, BUT, you all forget about a little car called the Subaru Impreza RS back I the day? The last AWD COUPE by Subie! They should offer the AWD package, but I love this car as RWD.
Maybe some do not like the looks of the wrx sti. Im not a fan. But its still a great car. Having options never hurts.
If you want a BRZ with awd then you could take the transfer case from a wrx and then buy the rest of the wrx and shut up about an awd BRZ.
the new down market 280z resurrection is going to be quite the competition for this thing. and we should be seeing signs of it around the time this turbo grade comes out
For people wishing this was awd, you have the wrx Sti for that. Rwd with a bit of power = lots more fun.
@David, what the point of making it AWD when they already a WRX & STI? This way they are diverse in the cars that their offering, you should think before you hit the "post" button dude!
Awd would have sealed the deal. Anyone have any idea on pricing? Hope its competitive. I can get a gen coupe with almost 70 more hp. But maybe power to weight ratio makes up for it.

I think Subaru had this plan all along, no way Subaru is gonna have a performance car without a turbo, that's there money maker, think they used Toyota to help develop a rwd platform. They could build on, case r& cost alot of money

I think this front end is just beautiful.. But i agreed on a hood scoop.. Make one that looks like the scoop on a 98 Subie GT :) or aomething along those lines
Concave hood scoops/vents would be best. A wrx sti esq hood scoop wouldn't fit this car's esthetics.

The spoiler might be a tad too big for the street but you gotta love the down force it makes for the track.
This is the LA auto show concept. This came out before the production car, so the taillights will likely look like the current model.

@ dirk. You must not realize what you posted. Amg is for Mercedes which you brought up and thought someone else was confusing it for tmg which does exist for Toyota. Tmg is present in Germany. Lets not try to change the subject boy
Toyota is ousting the TRD designation due to unwanted criticism, 'turd'. They are suppose to be changing to the TMG (Toyota Motorsports Group) by 2014 not to be confused with the TMg R&D as they are separate entities.

@Nick, I think you're a little confused. TRD= TOYOTA Racing Development. And they supply performance parts for toyota's and Scion's. Lexus has their own F-division. TRD also does Toyota's racing. TMG? Germany? You must be thinking of AMG. lol.
If Subaru releases this I'm sure Toyota would do something similar, they well not just sit idly by.
TRD just makes cosmetic mods on random Lexuses, as far as I know, Toyota's real racing division is TMG, even though it's mostly Germany-centered.

The gazoo car also made enough power to blow apart the stock transmission which is a problem that they haven't addressed yet
@puneet the gazing racing gt-86 wasn't built by Toyota, gazing racing is a team sponsored by Toyota and the car they made was twin charged not just turbo, and was a stripped out race car
I would be sweet if they take off some weight too, or at least keep it the same.
Toyota has also made a concept turbo version called the Gazoo version. Don't know what's stopping them from releasing it as a factory model now after this news
