Pininfarina on Display at Museo Ferrari

Ferrari's official museum dedicates its latest exhibit to the life and work of Sergio Pininfarina.

Name just about any contemporary Ferrari, and chances are overwhelming that it was designed by Pinfinarina. Now the Ferrari Museum in Maranello is celebrating the late chief of the design studio with an exhibit showcasing 22 of the cars which the late Sergio Pininfarina styled for the Prancing Horse marque. The son of company founder Battista "Pinin" Farina, Sergio lead his father's company for decades and oversaw the design of countless automobiles, among them some 100 or so Ferraris.

An Italian senator for life, Sergio died this past July, leaving his younger son Paolo in charge following the tragic death of his elder son Andrea in 2008. The exhibit at the official Ferrari Museum is split into three sections, highlighting the racing, GT and concept cars, respectively, which Sergio Pininfarina designed for Ferrari. Among those cars on display are the 250 LM that took Ferrari's last overall victory at Le Mans, the 330 GTC Speciale that was made for Princess Lilian of Belgium, the Pinin concept that was the only Ferrari ever made with four doors, and the experimental Modulo prototype and the wooden styling buck used in its execution.

Sergio's widow Giorgia and son Paolo were on hand for the opening ceremony, along with Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo and VP Piero Ferrari.
