Alfa to Unveil Production 4C in Geneva

Alfa Romeo's highly anticipated mid-engined sportscar is apparently ready to return to Geneva this March, this time in production form.

Two years after the stunning Alfa Romeo 4C concept debuted at the Geneva Motor Show, Autocar is reporting that the production version is set to arrive at the annual Swiss event this March. Although nothing has been made official by the automaker, Autocar's sources have claimed that the sports coupe is in its final development stage and the design won't deviate much from the concept. Power will come from a mid-mounted turbocharged four-cylinder engine that'll produce nearly 300 horsepower and mated solely to a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

Total curb weight will only be around 2,200 pounds, giving the rear-drive 4C one of the best power-to-weight ratios in its class which includes competitors such as the BMW Z4, Porsche Cayman and Lotus Exige. Production will probably take place solely in Italy but Alfa plans on exporting the car to many global markets, specifically the US, where the 4C will effectively relaunch the brand after a 17-year absence. Initially set to be debut as a hardtop coupe, a convertible variant will likely follow sometime around 2014.
