Porsche attempted to buy most if VW, but in doing so they went bankrupt. So VW bought some of the company. Just recently, VW bought the rest if the shares to Porsche. I'm pretty sure that's what happened, anyway.

@John no that isn't the case actually, the reason production is dipping is because they ramped it up for the launch of the new 911 and now that the initial demand has passed they can settle back down to a usual production scheduke

So does vw own Porsche or is it the other way around or are they partners. I'm not sure how it all turned out I know there was a huge legal debacle a few years ago but I'm not sure if or how it was resolved

It's the 911 convertible. You can tell by the headlight shape, and the larger rear end to fit the engine.
