This isn't the Mini Countryman that will be competing in the Dakar Rally this January, but it will be there every step of the way as the X-Raid team aims to defend its title.
Mini may have pulled factory its backing from the WRC, but the Countryman is still challenging rallies like Dakar at the hands of the X-Raid team. Last year X-Raid won the Dakar Rally by placing first overall, with three more of its entries finishing in the top ten, marking the Countryman as the contender to beat in this year's rally. Not to back down from the challenge, the team will be at it again when the rally kicks off on January 5, traversing 5,000 miles of desert through Peru, Argentina and Chile.
The vehicles it races in the grueling competition are highly modified, but supporting the team this year will be this mildly customized Mini Countryman, outfitted with parts from the Original Mini Accessories catalog. Aside from the matte black finish with red roof and stripes and Monster Energy logos, the Countryman support vehicle has been equipped with a four-piece body kit and silver-colored lower body cladding on the underside of the front apron, rear apron and side skirts. These, Mini points out, are just some of the accessories it offers buyers, along with various wheel and tire options, mud flaps, auxiliary lighting and more.
