New Towing Record Set at 142 MPH
A thousand-horsepower GMC pickup sets a new world record for towing a trailer.
This is not something anyone should be attempting on their own, let alone on a public highway. But whenever there's some sort of land speed record that can be broken, you're sure enough to find someone crazy enough to attempt it. Enter Diesel Power's Jason Sands. In this latest episode of "The Downshift", Sands attempts to break the Guinness World Record for the fastest speed when towing a trailer. His chosen chariot: a modified GMC 2500 HD truck with an output of over 1,000 horsepower.
The chosen trailer also needed some additional work by way of new wheels and tires in order to handle the intense speed. The team of near lunatics then took their truck/trailer combo to the El Mirage dry lake bed and the result was a new record of 141.998 mph. Watch the whole thing unfold in this official video.
