BMW's New X5 Sheds More Camo

Expect to see more of an evolutionary (rather than revolutionary) design when the next-generation BMW X5 debuts sometime early next year.

BMW is currently at work prepping its next-generation X5, due to arrive sometime later in 2013. Along with some previous images of the high-performance X5 M caught testing on the Nurburgring, our always intrepid spy photographers have managed to catch the regular model out testing on the open streets. This time, however, the test mule is covered with even less camouflage than before, giving us the best view so far of BMW's next full-size SUV (or in BMW-speak, SAV for Sports Activity Vehicle).

Exact details about the new model aren't clear just yet, but we expect to see a range of engine options that includes both 6- and 8-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines. Sources also indicate the possibility of an optional twin-turbo V6 and possibly even a turbo four-pot for some markets. Production will take place at the automaker's plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
