'66 Citroen DS21 Cabrio up for Auction

A rare convertible version of France's most beautiful car is going up for auction. French Riviera, here we come!

Lauded as one of the most beautiful cars ever made, the original Citroen DS remains a collector's item, but none is as highly sought-after as the convertible. Citroen initially declined to make a convertible of the initial DS19, but an independent coachbuilder known as Chapron fulfilled owners' wishes by buying complete sedans from the factory and converting them himself. Eventually Citroen contracted Chapron to build the "decapotables" with factory authorization, and one of those official examples is now up for auction.

One of 136 made, this DS21 cabriolet was delivered in forest green over black to a wealthy owner residing on a yacht at Antibes in the South of France. It was then sold in 1990 to a Swiss collector, who sold it in 2009 to another in Holland. It has since been re-sprayed, its interior reconditioned, cloth top and carpets replaced and hydraulics refurbished. A beautifully maintained example, this DS21 has the more powerful 139hp 2.2-liter four with three-speed automatic and has 23,909 km on the odometer.
