One-of-a-Kind Ferrari Racing Boat to Fetch £1 Million in Auction

World-record holding speedboat from the fifties is a significant part of Ferrari’s illustrious history.

A boat has to be pretty special to make it on to CarBuzz and with the Arno XI Hydroplane you're witnessing one of the most famous racing boats on the planet. Developed between 1952 and 1953 by speedboat lover Achille Castoldi and Ferrari racing driver Alberto Ascari, the expert knowledge and technical expertise of Enzo Ferrari was also utilized in order that the water-going machine would be capable of competing with the Guidotti family's Maserati-powered boats.

The result was the unstoppable 600+hp Arno XI, which boasted a twin-supercharged 12-cylinder Ferrari racing engine taken from a Type 375 Ferrari Grand Prix car. On October 15, 1953 at Lake Iseo, the world speed record of 150 mph was established, a record that remains to this day for an 800kg boat. After setting the record, the Arno XI successfully raced for another decade and in 1993 underwent a beautiful as-new restoration having been passed through the hands of three different owners since its inception.

It is believed that more than £1 million will be needed to successfully bid for this one-of-a-kind Ferrari when it goes to auction in Monaco in May and with it the new owner will get original pictures, hand-written notes, and an important piece of Ferrari history.
