Video: Chris Harris Tackles the New BMW M550d xDrive

It won’t be sold in the US or the UK, but with three turbos and 546lb-ft of torque, it’s a car worthy of a test drive.

Be warned that the M550d xDrive will not be for US consumption, nor in fact will any of the M Performance diesels that are powered by a tri-turbo engine developing 375hp and a massive 546lb-ft of torque.

This super potent diesel engine is complemented by an M-tuned suspension and bodyshell mounting, while BMW has also equipped the M550d with the xDrive AWD system and a redline a tad over 5,000 rpm. Official figures for the sedan are 0-62 mph in 4.7 seconds and an electronically-limited top speed of 155 mph, which Chris Harris discovers can be done without batting an eye lid. As always, the venue for the test is picturesque, there's plenty of insight from the main man as well as a healthy dollop of British wit.
