@ Joe. I know CVT's are also designed to simulate gears if it has a tiptronic type shifter or whatever it's called when you can shift from drive to "sport mode" and change gears yourself. Maybe that's what you're talking about?
No a cvt is one variable speed it's a steel belt that is varied in width by changing the pulleys around to create 'infinite' shift range
