Spied: Opel Adam, not Junior, is the All-New City Car

Named after the company’s founder Adam Opel, the new city-car is bang on track for its world debut this September in Paris.

It was previously announced that the name for Opel's all-new city car would be revealed on 8 May. However, the German publication Autobild is claiming the car that is currently codenamed Junior will get the moniker Adam. These spy shots have captured the car on its first laps around the Nurburgring. The Adam is based on a shortened version of the new platform that will also underpin the next-gen Corsa and will be available at the dealers in spring 2013. Prices are expected to start just under €10,000.

Measuring 3.70m long, it will be about 15cm longer then the VW Up and provide adequate space for four grownups. Opel is developing a new family of engines, which will debut on the Adam and likely be seen later in the next-gen Corsa. For starters, three- and four-cylinder units ranging from 1.0- to 1.4-liters will be deployed, followed by a new 1.6-liter unit in both diesel and turbocharged gasoline variants. The Opel Adam will be unveiled to the public at September's Paris Motor Show.
