No Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG for You, or Rather the U.S.

Why won't Americans ever like hatchbacks?

This shouldn't come as much of a surprise, but it's still a disappointment nonetheless. According to a report from Inside Line, Mercedes-Benz will not be bringing the A45 AMG stateside. Instead, they are choosing to target affluent young buyers in Europe. We were still holding out some hope that Mercedes would bring their entry-level AMG offering stateside, but due to the unpopularity of hatchbacks amongst Americans in general, the German automaker is holding off for now.

And that's a real shame. Not only will the A45 AMG be a fast car, but it will have a ton of high-tech features that younger buyers anywhere would want. Even more depressing for those in the U.S. who love hot hatches is the fact that the A45 will be powered by an AMG-tuned 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder direct-injection engine with around 350hp and more than 295lb-ft of torque. Power will be sent to all four wheels via AMG's seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
AMG will also add their magic touches via a sports suspension, electromagnetic speed-sensitive sports steering and improved brakes. Its main competitors will be the Audi RS3 and BMW M135i.
