Official: 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT Info Released

Mercedes is rolling out the changes for the 2013 SLS AMG GT.
Mercedes-Benz has just released a shocker - the SLS AMG is gone forever. The popular German supercar is being replaced by the SLS AMG GT, a more powerful hardcore version in both coupe and roadster forms. Think Agent Smith in the Matrix replacing the standard Agents. That is the new SLS AMG GT. The new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT features more power than its previous versions, a dynamic GT-quality suspension and tweaked transmission for a new take on the classic supercar.

Motivation for the 2013 model arrives in the form of its predecessor's 6.2-liter V8, though it has been ratcheted up by 20hp for a total output of 583hp. Torque remains the same at 479 lb-ft while a revised seven-speed AMG Speedshift dual-clutch gearbox transmits power to the rear wheels. Speaking of wheels, the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT wears 19-inch alloys wrapped in 265/35-series rubber up front while 20-inch wheels wrapped in 295/30-series rubber are fitted on the rear. The SLS AMG GT utilizes them to sprint off the line to 60mph in a tenth of a second faster than previous versions, clocking in at 3.6 seconds.

Top speed has been electronically-limited like its predecessors to 'only' 197mph. To handle the added power and speed, Mercedes has made available optional carbon ceramic brakes and an additional slew of new tires. "The new SLS AMG GT demonstrates the sort of potential which lies in AMG's super sports cars. With its even higher levels of performance, the SLS AMG GT excites out on the race track in particular by providing an emotionally enjoyable and passionate driving experience," said Tobias Moers, Mercedes-AMG Board Member and Head of Overall Vehicle Development.
The interior of the 2013 SLS AMG GT has also been upgraded with plenty of high-quality leather and three new color combinations. A new Designo styling package is also available along with an optional Bang and Olufsen sound system and plenty of carbon fiber pieces. It's been a long and wonderful road for the award-winning SLS AMG. Mercedes hopes to replicate that success with their new and improved 2013 SLS AMG GT. Sales for the new model are slated to begin this November.
