Is the 118MPGe 2013 Honda Fit EV the Best Prodcution EV in the World?

The 2013 Honda Fit EV has registered the best-ever EPA fuel economy rating for a production car.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency has released their official fuel economy figures for the 2013 Honda Fit EV and the Japanese hatchback has posted one some incredible numbers. The most impressive, however, was its combined 118MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent) rating. The 2013 Fit EV is Honda's first battery-electric vehicle in 20 years and its 118MPGe rating bests that of the second place Mitsubishi i-MiEV with 112MPGe and Ford Focus Electric at 105MPGe.

The more well-known Nissan Leaf is rated at only 99MPGe. In addition to the having the best-ever MPGe rating, the new Honda Fit EV also claims a best-in-class 82-mile range and can be quickly recharged in only 3 hours when using a 240-volt charger. The Fit EV isn't just an efficient vehicle just for the sake of being an efficient vehicle, as it utilizes a respectable 123hp electric motor with 189 lb-ft of available torque. Deliveries of the 2013 Honda Fit EV should start this summer on the West Coast before making its way to the Eastern Seaboard in 2013.

The Fit EV is priced at $36,625, though they are charging a $770 delivery fee. To make things more confusing, Honda isn't actually selling the EV. They are leasing it for about $399 a month over the course of 3 years.
