Aston Martin Cuts Production of V12 Zagato from 150 to 101

49 fewer examples of rare Italian-bodied British supercar will be built than originally projected.

When an automaker releases a limited-production model, it usually states the quantity to be built right from the get-go. Sometimes it increases production due to popular demand, but that number is rarely decreased. That's what makes this latest announcement so unusual. In the case of the Aston Martin V12 Zagato, that number was pegged at 150, but the latest reports indicate that Aston has actually decreased that number to 101 units.

The coachbuilt special was created to mark the 50th anniversary of the 1962 Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato, the model which launched a longstanding relationship between the British automaker and the Italian design house. After racing it at the Nurburgring, Aston Martin announced it would offer the V12 Zagato in limited numbers with a price tag of £330,000, making it considerably more expensive than both the Vantage (£90,895 - £135,000) on which it is based and the DBS (£175k) that stood as the company's regular-production flagship, but far less than the seven-figure One-77 supercar.

Did Aston have trouble finding buyers for the V12 Zagato at that price? Maybe, but whatever the reason, those that did put down their deposits will likely be happy to find their new investments ending up that much more rare.
