Vintage racecars share the track with cutting-edge machinery in Lord March’s back yard.
Our final installment from the 20th running of the Goodwood Festival focuses on the racing cars, many of which were skillfully piloted by racers old and new from legends like Alain Prost and Emerson Fittipaldi to contemporary champions like Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton. Blink and you could have believed you were at Le Mans, so strong was the presence of racing cars. They ranged from the early 1900s to today, and from NASCAR to Formula One.

Goodwood also celebrated 30 years of Group C sports cars, which saw the likes of Lancia, Porsche, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar thrill the crowds as they powered around the track and up the hill. The spectrum of cars on display and coming to life on the track at the Goodwood Festival of Speed is unparalleled, which is why petrol-heads aren't the only ones to flock there en masse. So do the racing stars of today and yesteryear, drawn to an event that has become a popular fixture on the motorsport calendar every bit as much as the British Grand Prix the following weekend.
