Porsche Macan Runs Wild in the Wet

Testing proceeds on Porsche's baby Cayenne.

Porsche is eager to follow up on the unprecedented success of the Cayenne with the new Macan. As much as the purists among us might like to, the truth is we can hardly blame them, since the SUV market is what propelled the company into lucrative profitability. In this latest batch of spy shots, the smaller performance SUV has been spotted testing in harsh weather. The German automaker is dialing in the Macan's handling around the track, revealing the car's interior in the process.

The result is what could be the closest we've seen to the production model yet. What we can see is that the interior features a large touchscreen infotainment system, surrounded by typical Porsche levels of luxury. The Macan should run on a range of engines borrowed from the Audi Q5 on which it's based, including a 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel with 300 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. The rest of the range will be populated by gasoline-burning V6 engines. Expect the baby Cayenne to arrive with a 2014 model year designation and hit the market in late 2013.
