Best in Show is a Mercedes 680S Sauotchik Torpedo

The Best of Show Award for the 2012 Concours d'Elegance has been announced.

One of the hardest tasks in the automotive world has to be deciding the Best in Show Award at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Of all the incredible models both current and classic that regularly attend the annual event, only one could take home the prestigious prize and the winner of the 2012 event has just been decided. The winner? A 1928 Mercedes-Benz 680S Saoutchik Torpedo owned by Paul and Judy Andrews of White Settlement, Texas (apparently that's a real town).

The Torpedo roadster was designed by Jacques Saoutchik and is powered by a 6.8-liter supercharged engine. The award-winning Mercedes made its first debut to the public way back at the 1928 New York Auto Show and was driven regularly by its first owner, Frederick Henry Bedford, until his passing in 1952. The 680S Saoutchik Torpedo then sat in storage until the 1980s when it was sold at auction. Purchased by Andrews in 2010, he went all out in returning the incredible auto to its former glory. "We spared no expense in trying to get it back absolutely correct," Andrews told the LA Times.

"We wanted no shortcuts at all and we wanted it to be as original as it could possibly be." Mr. Andrews stayed mum on the final restoration cost for the classic and uber rare Mercedes, however after besting the over 220 cars in the pack and picking up the coveted Best in Show from Pebble Beach, you can be sure it was worth every penny.
