Some people think too much of the poor mustang .. Poor stang has to fill very big made up shoes .. It's already lightning fast .. But come on .. Aventador , mp4-12c , gtr , way out of its league and I don't even wanna talk about how stripped the stan
Oh, and the Shelby destroyed the ZL1. (Thankfully there weren't any turns...)
Though everyone knew it would loose, I'm actually a little surprised by how quick the BRZ was in the 1/4.
Word, the gtr is probably the best example of bang for your buck in this bunch and any other bunch.

Correction for the earlier comments aventador's personal best at the quarter mile is at 10.2 s at 136 mph and on the nurburgring it did it in 7 m 25 min faster than a Ferrari Enzo and placed 16/269 cars that posted a lap on the nurburgring.
A gt2 rs has raced an aventador b4 and it lt lost The aventador is faster to 100 then the gt2 rs and has more power from there so the aventador would have still won
A better caparison would have been zr1, porsche gt2, gtr, mercedes slr, and the rest the same. Minus the brz lol.

Erich, this was only part of a wide variety of tests MT did to find the best drivers car of the year. So its not all about the qtr mile.

Cool race to watch and all, but the car classes were so far off it wasn't even fair. E.g. Swap the ZL1 for a ZR1 corvette, the Porsche for a Carrera GT, add the 458 back, swap the merc for a SLR and so on. Keep the BRZ though because it's nice to see what a fast car looks like going against a F#%*£!G fast car. Maybe next one will be the ultimate top dog standoff?
My didn't they use thenissan gtr+alpha? It probably wouldn't beat the Lambo or the mclaren, but it would of got better results
The aventador was fast and all but around the track the Mclaren spanked the the Lambo
I'd take the ZL1 or GT500 over the others just because you can have a true manual trans and not be too much slower. Hell I'd even take the BRZ and upgrade with the saved money over a gtr

i think there should be an AWD system in the GTR similar to the ferarri FF but it should go RWD after 3rd gear

2013 Shelby I'm guessing with really good shifter could beat gt-R in 1/4 of mile saying it was only milliseconds behind going mile hour faster it would pass it by 1/2 ur comparing Japanese POS Gt-R to raw American power

@Jessica, because the Bugatti isn't brand new, the F12 isn't technically out yet and the LFA wasn't good enough to return from last year.
Why is everybody saying "oh this doesn't belong here", it doesn't matter this was just for fun and they used the cars that partook in the competition. How is that hard to understand?
And the gt500 was less then 2 seconds slower then the GTR around laguna so no it didn't Destroy it around a track
i absolutely LOVE the aventador and am glad it won :). i also love the gtr though and I feel proud of the gt500 because I had high expectations. The BRZ made me LOL

What's the point of this race? No price ceiling, no hp limit/torque, no weight floor, no limits on types of transmission, no consideration on electronics. Like this is so pathetic. Why don't we just throw in some factory race cars too?

The only thing about this race that surprised me was the GT500, I knew the lambo would destroy but I'm impressed by the GT500s ability to Catch up

The GT500 had a higher trap speed at the finish than the GTR. You know what that means, it was catching up and hunting down that GTR.

I was honestly impressed by the GT500 the most in this race. That's coming from a Camaro guy. Sure would've liked to see a ZR1 and 458 in there. Oh well.

I agree with emmanuel. You can save hundreds of thousands of dollars and buy one of the cars that can keep up with a lambo or a mclaren. Can anyone on here afford the mclaren or lambo? Probably not. I can't so I'd take the next fastest car.

I like how Carlos, Jonny (motortrend in this very competition) and Chris Harris have recently specifically addressed the b/s about cars like GTR "driving themselves"...
I've driven the GT-R on a track vs. Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche and Aston Martin. Because of the TT and 4WD, it makes you a better driver than you really are and easily passes these other cars on a road course. Must respect a GT-R for the price.
Your truly incompetent if you wanna hate on the GTR, because you can save 300 thousand dollars and only be .3 seconds behind lamborghini's flaghship car, if anything this video reaffirms how great the GTR really is.
All cars were invited!! If you don't see them, the manufacturers wouldn't/couldn't give the vehicles up. If you watch the whole competition at Motortrend, he says it at the very beginning. The cars you see are because the companies were generous.

No one buys a gt500 so they can compare to super cars. It's for pure fun , smoking the tires and hearing those two things that cause organisms the exhaust and the whine of the supercharger.

@ Abraham, people wouldn't flock to a car bec it's loud, people would flock to a car when it's fast (gtr over gt500 np) when it looks good (all preference but I think gtr) and when it's rare, gt500 is really a mustang underneath so gtr

Nope, this is the most powerful mass produced V8 in the world. The Hennessy Venom and SCC Ultimate Aero do not count.
Matt, the GTR and the Shelby are not direct competitors, why go and ask for a track comparison. Did you see how quiet the GTR was compared to the Shelby? That alone would cause people to flock to the stang.

It's a go-fast, fun car. It holds it's own with cars that are 3 and 4 times it's price. It's what a true muscle car is about- serious performance for little money. (well at least relative to its competition)
People miss the point of the GT500. It is Mustang that has the MOST powerful production V8 engine in the world right now. And sure it doesn't have the most sophisticated transmission and suspension to lay all of that power down.

Look I don't know if u noticed but first of all this was taken at launch and second the mustang has about 662 hp and yet the gtr with more than 100 hp down is way in front so is the mp4 at about 70 hp it's typical American too much hp but no feel of power at all i mean comon the lp640 would smash even in a rolling start it shows that American just like to add power vaguely
