Infiniti to Debut New G in Geneva

Next-generation Infiniti will be "much sportier and more dynamic than the current car".

Striving for market share in a highly competitive market, the Infiniti G series has some tough rivals on its hands. The BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4, Lexus IS, Acura TL and new Cadillac ATS (to name just a few) all compete for the same buyers. So in an effort to make its entry a more compelling one, Infiniti is preparing to launch an all-new G at the Geneva Motor Show next March. Benefitting from a collaboration between Renault-Nissan and Daimler, the new G could borrow a platform from Mercedes.

It is almost certain to use the German automaker's engines, tipped to include both gasoline and diesel-burning engines in four and six cylinders right from launch. The current G37 packs a thirsty 3.7-liter V6. While a smaller 2.5-liter V6 was offered for a time, as it remains in its Japanese-market counterpart, the Nissan Skyline (not to be confused with the GT-R that shared its underpinnings in previous incarnations), the smaller engine was discontinued in North America last year. Infiniti currently offers the G37 in sedan, coupe and convertible body-styles, and is likely to follow down the same road with its replacement.

Which version will be unveiled in Geneva, however, remains to be seen. Citing Infinti chief designer Shiro Nakamura, Autocar reports that the new G will be "much sportier and more dynamic than the current car". Sounds good to us.
