Description: Audi has the R8, Mercedes-Benz has the SLS AMG, Porsche only recently started doing anything BUT sportscars, but BMW doesn't have a proper sportscar to top its lineup. That's about to change...Add Comments11
Jackson MichaelAug 09, 2012 Thank you, Corey, for being intelligent
Wyatt GordonAug 09, 2012 Aaron said it perfectly. as long as the car is still exciting, fast, and good looking, there's nothing wrong with an electric motor or two. its only bad if the company goes down Prius road, which is the polar opposite of those qualities I mentioned
Andrew PalmerAug 08, 2012 I have an open mind, but the cost/benefit ratio for most hybrids just isn't there...until you factor in smug..then well I guess you could twist the numbers any you want....but I will hold judgement til we see one one the road.
Aaron CartwrightAug 08, 2012 Umm has anyone heard of a 918? its also a hybrid. Why are there so many close minded and jaded people on here. It's pretty sad really! Have an open mind you may learn something new and exciting that would have otherwise.
Justin BrevikAug 08, 2012 the difference is this car is gay and the R8 and SLS are awesome
Carlos Ernesto GarciaAug 08, 2012 This is good competition for a v8 r8 but not the sls
Corey Alan KelleyAug 08, 2012 Im pretty sure they're talking about the electric versions of those cars...
Bala UnccAug 08, 2012 Beating sls? A hybrid car? No chance
Joe GrantAug 08, 2012 They aim for it to challenge the R8/SLS yet it's a plug-in hybrid, they'll have to pull a miracle out the bag for this!
David JusticeAug 08, 2012 Cool car, but to put in the R8/SLS sports car category is a bit of a stretch. Very impressed with the MPG tho.
Shivam KaushalAug 09, 2012 Eww hope the stripped version comes out better

Abraham MendozaAug 08, 2012 Because electric is, yes efficient, but when driving long distances they're impractical. Charging times are unrealistic and isn't suitable for daily commuting.
Andrew PalmerAug 08, 2012 I like those numbers, but what's the cost?
Aaron CartwrightAug 08, 2012 finally! a seemingly fun car to drive that gets 70mpg or better! Sure beets the karma!
Bobby BobAug 08, 2012 A 1.5litre turbo 3 cylinder with 200+hp is fantastic. I'd like to know the torque number tho.
Michael DunnAug 08, 2012 The M3 looks much better and its faster as well.
Ben AugustAug 08, 2012 Question: how is it consuming 20mpg, when it is "in pure electric mode" ?
Pure electric implies no gas combustion, so where is the gas consumption coming from?
John SerelyAug 08, 2012 Haha Jamie. That is not the point of this car, it is a GT car! Not a supercar! It is not all about speed, it is about comfort, styling and MPG, too!
Daniel EadsAug 08, 2012 @Jamie, this is not suppose to be a super car. It's a car that is trying to be ridiculously fuel efficient and have GT performance. People get caught up in bhp and 0-60 times too much. Not every car is trying to be the fastest for its price.
Jamie PerigoAug 08, 2012 Yay! My wrx will smoke this $100k plus "supercar" no way it will get 80 mpg. Apparently hybrids can claim any mpg they want with no ramifications when they don't hit that high number
Korli JorlkAug 08, 2012 I have to login and comment ,r u serious bala ? they're talking about sls amg hybrid ,the yellow one not the normal one .
Bala UnccAug 08, 2012 Zero to sixty in 5 secs? And they are calling it as super car and competing for sls?
Domi BsaibesAug 08, 2012 That's exactly what i was thinking chris
Chris BjorgolfssonAug 08, 2012 Sorry, I meant ~162 gallons less per year, not 75. That is still only saving them about $700 a year compared to an R8
Chris BjorgolfssonAug 08, 2012 Some people will buy them more as a novelty item or as "fanboys" but these likely won't sell as well as the competition. Great way for BMW to do some technology development though!
Matt PiccoloAug 08, 2012 The m3 gets to 60 quicker than 5 seconds... That's a pretty sad time if they think this is competing with the r8, sls etc...
Chris BjorgolfssonAug 08, 2012 People paying enough to buy an R8 doesn't care about saving $200-300 a year on gas but they will care that a 25k WRX can hit 60mph faster than them. People only drive cars like this a few k miles a yr. @3k miles per year you use ~75 gallons less...
Michael NascimentoAug 08, 2012 OMG! M3 Performance and 80MPG! This is worth whatever they are asking for it!
JvAug 08, 2012 A 223 hp 3 cylinder is impressive, so is 80 mpg.
Wyatt GordonAug 09, 2012 @Janak, there's 2 very good reasons they're never building the Gina. 1, It would be hellishly expensive to repair if you crash it, with the flexible bodywork and all, and 2, The reason its named Gina is because the way the engine cover opens, looks a bit like the body part the name "Gina" is probably short for
Abraham MendozaAug 08, 2012 This is the only viable option for a sports hybrid that doesn't cost 500 thousand dollars. But go ahead, buy one of those 918's.
Aaron CartwrightAug 08, 2012 @Erich really would you rather have a Prius that actually is a piece or a karma that doesn't run? This might just be the best everyday driver/hybrid yet. Only time will tell.
Erich EngelAug 08, 2012 No slotted or drilled brakes? I can smell slow from miles away with this piece of masterly crafted shit. That's why Porsches got the 918 to show all the pussies how a real ev super car is made... This is a waste of engineering shame on Bavaria (mw)
Janak SolankiAug 08, 2012 I'll be completely honest. I'm the biggest BMW fan, but I'm really not digging this car. If you guys wanna see what they should have made, look up the BMW Gina concept on YouTube.
Abraham MendozaAug 08, 2012 I see it too. It just has BMW I8 design cues.
Moe SargiAug 08, 2012 WTF!!! Looks nothin like a celica loool
Jordan JacksonAug 09, 2012 Ok not sure if anyone will read this now, but I just noticed a typo in my first comment, I meant to say "fins" not find, those fins are odd looking
Jackson MichaelAug 09, 2012 Lol the camo makes it look like a boxy Bugatti
Matt GreenleeAug 08, 2012 i hate being so young. by the time I'll be able to afford them, all super cars will be stupid hybrids or electric. the rumble of a v8 or the scream of a v12 will be a thing of the past..... sucks.
Jon AshleyAug 08, 2012 Still, i agree with darrel. why not use a turbo four pot, lighten the car a bit by taking out the hybrid technology, and focus on handling. And lower the price still. BMW isn't building this car for performance. They are building it to achieve "green" status.
Abraham MendozaAug 08, 2012 It's the first in a series of truly efficient sports cars. More will come, and less expensive.
Kate TaylorAug 08, 2012 It is ammo the lights are just below the spoiler
John SerelyAug 08, 2012 @darrel: Ugh, are you kidding, this is supposed to be about 120k, not 300! Know what your talking about before you comment, haha!
John SerelyAug 08, 2012 No, timothy, your talking about the concept, this is the real deal!
Timothy HookerAug 08, 2012 why is it camoflauged? we all know what it looks like already
Uche UkaegbuAug 08, 2012 The back looks so nasty.... I don't know about the car :(
Matt PiccoloAug 08, 2012 Yea this is just camo, those won't b the real tail lights
And that wasn't sarcasm
Thank you, Corey, for being intelligent
