Windsor Castle Hosts 1st Concours d’Elegance

A lawn full of rare and one-off classic cars strikes us as the perfect way to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II and her 60-year reign.

Automotive concours take place all over the world, from Pebble Beach to Villa d'Este. The UK was lacking such a celebration of beautiful automobiles, but has now rectified the vacancy at no less prestigious a setting than Windsor Castle. And true to its format, it featured some truly gorgeous automobiles on the beautifully manicured lawns of the royal residence. Fortunately our good friend Steve Ward of LS3 Photography was on hand to capture the elegance.

The show included one stand-out automobile from each year of Her Majesty's 60 years on the throne, the concours featured "famous race-winning sports cars, graceful limousines, [and] exquisite one-off examples of celebrated coachbuilders' art." Some of the more notable models at the event included a fantastic 1925 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Coupe, 1956 Aston Martin DB3S/9, a Ferrari 250 MM Scaglietti Spider, a 1959 Maserati Tipo 60 Birdcage and a yellow Lamborghini Miura. A Porsche 550 Spyder, Avions Voisin and a Ford GT40 were all also at the innaugural English event.
