Peugeot Previews 2008 Crossover Concept

Neon yellow show car previews new hybrid crossover from the Lion marque.

The circuit of major international motor shows resumes in a couple of weeks when the doors open at the Pairs Motor Show, and Peugeot isn't about to sit out its home expo. Just yesterday we brought you the first teasers of the Onyx concept, but while that takes the form of more of a pie-in-the-sky show car, the vehicle you see here is just one step away from production. Called the 2008, it previews what is expected to be a new crossover based on the new 208 hatchback.

Look beyond the day-glow paint job, 80s-era lower body stripes, thin sideview mirrors and oversized wheels and what you're left with is expected to reach production in the near future with few changes. Though few details were released together with this images, we're expecting a gasoline-electric hybrid drivetrain to be on board, a first for Peugeot that has to date only done diesel hybrids. The gasoline engine (probably a small four-cylinder unit) would likely power the front wheels with the electic motor driving the rear for through-the-road all-wheel drive.
