SRT Prices New Viper from $97,395

Pricing for the new Viper vitally comes in below the Corvette ZR1. We smell a showdown coming on.

SRT has finally released pricing for the long-awaited 2013 Viper. The new snake will be available for order beginning in November with pricing starting at $97,395. That figure doesn't take into account the mandatory $1,995 destination fee Chrysler is charging, but the sticker price brings the new Viper in below arch-rival Chevrolet's top-of-the-line Corvette ZR1. The 2013 Viper, which made its official debut back in April, packs a boisterous 8.4-liter V10 rated at 640 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque.

For comparison's sake, the 2013 Corvette ZR1 runs on a 6.2-liter supercharged V8, which puts out 638hp and 604 lb-ft of torque. Priced at over $113,000, the ZR1 is a more expensive proposition (by about $16k) compared to the latest Viper. The top-trim Viper GTS, meanwhile, is priced at $120,395 (also before delivery). Employing a two-mode active suspension and higher-quality materials, the GTS still undercuts the fully-loaded ZR1 by about three grand, instantly making the 2013 Viper an immediate and more fiscally-conservative competitor in the realm of American supercars. Not to mention a (slightly) more powerful one.

The 2013 SRT Viper will be produced at Chrysler's Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit starting this coming November. The plant has served as the home of the Viper since the first model's introduction in 1995. SRT says dealer orders are expected to begin in mid-November.
