Both the Viper and the ZR1 use carbon fiber and aluminum for around the same prices.
They were also called ricers because they were significantly slower and very underpowered compared to the cars back then. But today, many cars from Japan can compete and even beat many US cars
i would buy a viper over the corvette anyways. even though car enthusiest know when a ZR1 is coming by, others just think, oh a corvette. this car is unmistakable and demands the attention of witnesses.
Getting news on the next gen viper was the only reason I got carbuzz, almost a year ago.

Not only do I not think this looks anything like a 599. I believe there are only so many ways to do classic sporting lines without looking too radical for our present tastes. This car screams OG GTS and nothing else frankly.
I'd take this over a GTR and especially over a ZR1 but I'd still take a 911 over this, I know I know it's slower ect... but I just like the 911 best of all cars in this price range.

When you have the money for any of these cars I'm sure money isn't a factor but if someone is in the market to buy a Viper or Vette they wouldn't be looking at GT-R and vise versa.
@Connor The GT-R is in a whole different class of the Viper and ZR1. The only thing that is comparable is the price but as far as that there's nothing else you can compare.

Not quite sure how the $100,000 viper compares to the gtr but the ACR and the zr1 you really can't compare to the gtr because of the price difference.

Carlos and Jonny from Motortrend have both said this year that criticizing the GT-R about its "lack of skill required to drive" crap is completely ignorant. Since they have infinitely more wheel time than any of you--I agree with them.
The viper and GTR aren't really comparable. The GTR as a perdition machine made for people who take themselves to seriously, while the viper is ridiculous beast for looneys.viper > GTR

650hp for carrera s money? Sounds pretty good but at that point I'd definitely spend 50 more gs on a 911 turbo that could out run just about any hyper car then you can pick up groceries, kids and get 20 mpgs
There is nothing to argue, the viper is faster(RWD and NA might I add), more powerful, only a few thousand more, has an interior from the same people that do Mas and lambo (correct me if I'm wrong) there is nothing to argue ;)

Agreed with pat, GTR can go run and hide in corner, a real car has just emerged and obviously has way more bang for your buck.
If you dont have the skill to handle a sports car, GTR is for you. If you want to take the bull by its horns and you have the skill to drive a car, Viper, Vette is for you. Simple as that. Both are fun, just matters how you want to drive
And yea a gt500 is out of this category It's not even in the same class as a z06 I think

Yea they had the idea, then it wasn't financially possible for the companyat the time so they closed the program and didn't restart it till after. Fiat took over, not trying to take away from the viper just saying if not for fiat
The the new viper took longer than two years to develop. The prototype was built a year after fiat moved in.

I am a Huge Viper fan, but I wouldn't choose this wheel option for my Viper! There is something about the design that doesn't do it for me. I feel that it takes away from the overall look of the car.

I saw a pic online of a viper (2013) running around with a blue color. I think it was the same as the launch edition, but with no stripes. It looked great. I really want to see a ACR version soon.
While I really like the nostalgic look of the blue and white stripes of the GTS. I have to say that this "stock" viper, if it truly is the stock version looks amazing. I think if I had the cash I might go with stock srt viper instead of the GTS

Patrick- I love the magnum it's by far the best station wagon ever Made. I also love the G8 it's under appreciated in my opinion.
I'd love to have a new Chevy SS, 63 Corvette, a Silverado, and....a SLS AMG. That's part of my dream garage.
I'll eventually have a G8 GT or SRT8 Magnum as a DD. I love Mopar stuff as well but I can't get away from those LS engines. Eventually I'd like to get an 03-06 Viper though.
G8 is an interesting choice Patrick, wish Pontiac wasn't shut down. Really started liking the Aussie captive imports they were bringing in.
I've always wanted a 72' cuda' or an old AMC javelin. After the classics I would then buy something practical like a Jeep grand Charokee SRT-8 and finish it of with a Challenger SRT-10. it would be mopar heaven.

I agree with you Clay in terms of design, tech, materials, etc. They definitely are. But that's what I love about the Viper, Vette, GTR, etc. Great bang for the buck.
Well they're supposed to perform in different worlds. The Viper in a Nurburgring world and the Ferrari in a sort of Italian country side roads.
I know when to admit defeat, your right I looked at the numbers and the viper is better in almost every performance aspect, but the statement still stands, the viper and 458 are worlds apart.
And I agree with you on the badassery of the Viper. I was just saying performance wise they are closer than everyone thinks despite price, materials, technology, design, etc.
Haha when it come to performance cars I would say that speed is pretty important. More so than the others. While I agree that a 458 did have nicer materials than the ACR and more "exotic" styling, that doesn't really reflect performance.
Not everything is about speed! I'm just saying the viper and 458 are worlds apart, and by the I actually prefer the viper mostly for is simplistic bad-assness
Clay the last ACRs are faster around tracks than the 458. Technology is nice but it's not always the end all be all contributor to speed.
In a straight line they may be very similar but the 458 have a lot more technology. Like most Ferraris it is made to be a technical machine of precise engineering. While the viper is just made to "go like stink"

It's true the vipers performance numbers are no where near the 458 but if some one thinks the viper is better looking you really can't argue. For instance I think the viper is better looking than a Bugatti despite being on two very different levels.

Yes the base has the hood from the last gen viper while the GTS has the new carbon fiber hood.
I don't know about the base car's hood. The base car (shown here) has a lot of vents on it, while the GTS's hood (pictured in blue) looks a lot cleaner IMO
IMO this is the best looking American car currently being made. It rivals the 458's sexiness with good ol' studliness!

Well first of all Matt, the Viper is more mean, more manly, you get more out of it, and guess what, TRACTION CONTROL. So you won't die in the rail.

I'd take a gtr... Just as quick, looks better (IMO) 4 seats, more truck space, 0-60 IN 2.8 SECONDS! and if u get caught in the rain u won't get killed

I wouldnt say this is a better bang for buck than gt-r.. U can bring your friends in the nissan, this is kinda striclty a weekend car.. Not hating just saying..

That is a great car. The viper blows the GTR out of the water IMO. And I've read 3 reviews on the viper, and all of them said while it is still a hardcore, raw car, it isn't AS raw as the prev gen.
I would scrap the Viper and the GT-R and invest in an Audi RS4 where it doesn't demand respect from the driver but commands it from everyone els on the road ;)
I love Vipers too... But just remember, the new one has electronic "nannies" and controls just like every other car now...

That's the whole point of the viper, Lou. The viper has been a man's car. It takes a lot of skill to drive it successfully.
On paper but I'm sure the GTR is MUCH easier to be fast in. I love the Viper but it commands ability and respect from the driver. I guess it doesn't matter on a straight tho.
