Beetle Cabrio Spied Undisguised

These latest spy shots show the drop-top Beetle just about ready to hit showrooms.
While the new Beetle hard-top has been making its way into VW showrooms around the world, many fans have been holding out for the convertible. From these latest spy shots, it seems they won't have to wait much longer. Caught in bright red, silver, and black, these new Beetle Cabrio test cars are practically undisguised, save for some photo-realistic stickers over the headlights and taillights and a few tacked-on turn signals on the bumper covers. (Plus some floating CarBuzz logos that seem to follow the car wherever it goes.)

Expect the powertrain lineup for the Beetle Cabrio to be identical to the tin-top, with the standard range of gasoline and diesel engines. Gasoline engines available in the Beetle include a 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated inline-five which produces 170 horsepower and 177 pound feet of torque and a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 200 hp and 207 lb-ft. The diesel, meanwhile, comes in the form of a 2.0-liter TDI rated at 138hp and 236 lb-ft of torque. Only with the roof down, you'll be able to smell the fumes better.
