VW Debuts Amarok Canyon Edition in Hanover

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles offers production version of concept truck unveiled in Geneva.

Pickup trucks may not be the first type of vehicle that comes to mind when you think of Volkswagen, but overseas, the German automaker offers just such a vehicle called the Amarok. The four-door, short-bed pickup is a product of the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles division, which just showcased a wide range of its vehicles in various configurations at the IAA Commercial Vehicles show in Hanover, Germany. That's where VW Nutzfahrzeuge unveiled the Cross Caddy and this special edition of the Amarok called the Canyon edition.

Not to be confused with the GMC pickup of the same name, the Canyon edition emphasizes the customization options available on the Amarok and its off-road abilities. The special is based on a concept truck that Volkswagen displayed at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year which VW Commercial Vehicles deemed worthy of production. It starts off the with the Trendline trim, painted in unique Copper Orange color (or alternatively in silver, red or beige), and trimmed out with darkened rear lights, color-keyed undercarriage guards, light bar behind the cab and wheelarches and bed cover in contrasting black.

A pair of turbo-diesel engines can be specified in either part- or full-time 4Motion all-wheel drive with optional locking rear differential, riding on 17 or 18-inch wheels, while the partial leather interior gets a two-tone treatment.
