This car is way to bulky looking to be considered a super car. It looks like several other cars melded together with a bunch of aftermarket plastic. No offense to the fans but I just don't think this car brings anything special to the table.
I've just realized how identical the rear is to the Maserati Granturismo MC. And that is fantastic, since both cars are absolutely stunning.
I agree the 2nd Gen. And 4th Gen. Were quite good looking, and now this 5th one is even better looking.
Dont forget about Sergio, the Italian CEO of fiat that saved Chrysler from being bankrupt and gave permission for the new vipers to be made.. Also gave 3000 jobs to Americans and more on the way... Great car!

I love cars and i haven't bought the car i want because i won't live beyond my means just for a car. Does that make me love them less? I don't think so. But there are other things in life which are priorities. sorry, just my opinion
You can still be a gear head without being hardcore. Just cause you love something doesn't mean you need to dedicate yourself to it. Many people have much more important things to take care of before a hobby. Oh and why don't you just get a better car if yours is a piece of shit breaking down all the time

Well part of the reason I spend 60% on cars (including gas) is that I don't get payed a lot and my car breaks down all the time. But passion is the only thing stoping me from throwing it in a pit and taking a bus.
Cars can definitely be investments. And I'd rather enjoy them now while I'm young.
I'd say 60% of all the money I've ever spent was on cars and I'm ok with that.

Instead of Dodge having to offset the mileage of the ram and viper with a ton of super mileaged cars or pay a really high fine to CAFE, now only Ram and SRT have to pay the CAFE fine and since they dont produce huge numbers, the fines are much smalle
Lol it's most likely not true. Fiat had an input in the go of the viper. Separating SRT probably brings more profit.

According to motortrend the new viper makes the zr1 feel old fashioned an crude. And the new viper is faster, higher quality, and more comfortable not to mention better handling. I think this should wrap up the argument.

To be fair the gen1 viper was pretty basic also but the only luxury item a cobra had was the price tag. So combined with the reasons you gave and the entree fee, I don't think it would outsell viper.
Of course it outsold the cobra. The cobra was not built for public consumption, it was an actual race car. Designed, engineered and built to race and nothing in between. You couldn't walk into a dealership and order a cobra. Come on and compare apples to apples. If they put out a true, authentic, cobra it would put the viper out of business.
It's because the Italians are the ones that do the interiors. All the Chrysler lineup has nice interiors relative to a few years ago.
The new Interior makes the viper Perfect Unlike any other. I "love" the Viper and will own it in the nearlly few years Inshallah..
All American interiors are gonna look great now especially since all 3 company's are financially stable and making profit again

@zach, I've been having the same problem. And @ben, yeah if ford can just put the IRS in their new gt500, I would love to see the lap times against the Camaro. But against the ZR1 vette, idk how well it'd do. I'm skeptic of that one.....
agreed. they need to bring back the IRS. Hopefully being out performed in a track setting by the ZL1 will help sway them in that direction.
Well idk if you wanna count the 1000 horse super snake, but unless mustang can liven up the suspension to handle the 700 horse then they won't be able to take it to the track in a very outstanding way. I seriously wanna see it with IRS. Nothing else.
An ACR version of this viper is sure to be everybit as hardcore as the old one and would destroy the current ZR1. Lets hope GM ups the ante with the C7 ZR1. Who's gonna be the first to hit 700hp? Mustang probably haha

I think I might like the overall look of the base viper over the gts, I really think the old style hood is better, but on the other hand I like the carbon fiber touches as well.
Yea it is getting a little personal. I like the viper GTS in the yellow with the carbon back (if thats an option) and then GTS rims in black (if that's an option)

I have never met a bad corvette owner. Our corvette club in Amarillo run just about every car show in town. They run the annual Make-A-Wish show which raises lots of money for the great cause!

I think the problem with comparing the vette and the viper is no matter how many performance #s and historic values you through around it really doesn't matter because we all love cars and these are booth great cars.
Back to the vette vs viper, if you ignored everything but the engine, tranny and handling, I honestly what haves very hard time. But, with the exterior, and interior of the viper, I'd go with that I haven't updated my 4 to iOS6 yet, so :(

Because they have a v10 naturally aspirated made out of, you guessed it "plastic" and they are In the right price range, new phone software rocks, and discussing homework makes you smarter. Look equally, the vette should be considered a super car....
So basically the ideas behind all these arguments are these... Vettes can't be super cars becaus rod their price but should be considered super cars because they have 60+years of experience and have become cheap plastic, but viper is a super car....

I would have the same problem with the cars.
I won't say either car is better. I'd have a REALLY hard time choosing between and ACR and a ZR1 if given the chance to own/drive one. BUT I will say that a car doesn't exist for 60+ years for nothing.
I just like cars for what they are not where they are from, who made it, what its pedigree is. None of that matters in my mind its just the final product that matters. I just respect good design and the viper and the vette definitely both have it.
@Dan I'm a Mopar Guy as much as I'm a Chevy guy. At car shows we seem to get along just fine.

Of them at track days and autocrosses and its funny because the owners get along a lot better than the car buzz readers lol. Back to the vette I can pick a c6 up used here in Cali get a supercharger for 8grand and get near 600hp and still pass smog
It's true they were made of the same stuff but that doesn't really matter, all that maters is how the compare as an all abound car. And In my opinion the viper is simply better.

@Clay the easier to drive doesn't just come from TC it's the way stiffer chassis, improve suspension dynamics , better braking, and a wider body to hold wider tires and ton of other things I'm probably missing.

Liked the most was its added refinement and how much easier it was to control although this was a limited test so I don't think they polish the limits too much. I wouldn't be surprised if the new viper is "easier" to drive than the zr1.

Or at least comparing base vette with the viper. The high ends of both are pretty much on par. There are points where one is better than the other but it a very subtle difference. I'm not saying vette is better just that they are "doppelgängers"

The corvette just doesn't have the same level of passion as the viper and the the vette is definitely easier to drive.

Supercars exotics are about extremes... There is no light version of a Viper, only hardcore and more hardcore... I'd wager the number of Handicapped plates on a Vette outnumber the total plates of a Viper...
I'm going to say this once.. An exotic/supercar buyer does not want to sit at a light with a $50k version parked next that to an untrained eye is the same car, even if it is the definition of a Sports Car like a Vette...

Hopefully when the C7 comes out with its new interior, exterior styling, performance statistics, and technology, some of the critics will shut their traps, seeing as the C7 should be nearly flawless and will rival every automobile in every aspect.

The Z06 should be considered a super car, much less the ZR-1! The Z06 has 505 hp and weighs less than the all carbon fiber Porsche Carrera GT, which is a super car. How would 638 horsepower be considered a "sports car"?
