Hennessey Previews New Viper Venom

Hennessey Performance wastes no time in amping up the 2013 SRT Viper to ridiculous levels of power and performance.

The 2013 SRT Viper has yet to even hit dealerships, but that isn't stopping John Hennessey and his team over at Hennessey Performance from already working out a pair of new Venom packages for the latest Chrysler supercar. The 2013 Viper made its official debut back in April at the New York Auto Show. Packing a monstrous 8.4-liter V10 rated at 640 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque, it wouldn't seem that the all-American supercar needs any more power, but that never stopped Hennessey in the past, and it isn't about to this time, either.

Two programs have been worked out by the Houston-based tuner: the Venom 700R and the uber-powerful Venom 1000 Twin Turbo. The 700RR package cranks the V10 engine's output up to 725 horsepower and 695 lb-ft of torque while the 1000 Twin Turbo boosts those numbers to 1,120 and 1,092, respectively. The former is estimated to accelerate from 0-60mph in 3.1 seconds, run the quarter-mile in 10.7 seconds at 134mph and reach a top speed of 216mph. The latter, meanwhile, posts theoretical numbers of 2.7 seconds, 9.7 at 152mph and an as-of-yet unknown top-end.

Changes to the 2013 SRT Viper's engine will include freer-flowing intakes, new exhaust system, ECU recalibrations, new air filters and much, much more. Optional aerodynamic parts will also be offered, including everything from a new huge racing-spec rear wing to new wheels. All of the aerodynamic pieces will be made out of lightweight materials to keep the power-to-weight ratio in the sweet spot.
