A 4x4 vehicle is 2wd with a separate transfer case from the transmission witch must be engaged to give power to the 4 wheels either in 4HI or 4LO, now some vehicles do have the option to make it 2wd but these usually are available on towing packages

That because Subaru and the Evo are awd, u can't change the ratio of the center diff... Not grasping the difference? A Subaru and Evo are awd, a newer jeep Cherokee is 4wd, because I has full time awd with a selectable center diff
Any Subaru owner or MIT Evo owner would tell you their call is Awd not 4wd. They'd sound like an idiot at a car show. Just sayin.
For the purpose of this article 4wd and awd are interchangeable terms. Traditionally 4wd would refer to trucks or jeeps, that's common knowledge, your arguing over semantics. If you want to get literal about it, 4 wheels do get power and drive.....
And awd u cannot, both situations vehicle is perminatly awd, jeep grand Cherokee is a gret example, they are awd with a selectable center differential making it 4wd, same shit just one is selectable as one is not

Also Awd does not have "low" gears like a 4wd does because Awd does not have a transfer case. There are many differences.
Actually not. 4wd has an exterior mounted transfer case to the transmission while Awd has a power splitting differential within the tranny. Awd provides different percentages of power to front/rear axles depending on loss of traction.
Glad that the Impreza became a Sedan again. The only thing I don't like about that version is the back, it reminds me of a Toyota Avensis.

Have a 99 swapped RS, most fun and unique car I have driven. Absolute blast to drive on back roads and gets looks from people who know a thing or two.
I used to have a 98 2.5 RS. Black with gold wheels. That thing was a fkn blast. Actually, probably one of my favorite cars ever. I miss it.
Yeah, but the American market is flooded with tons of competition from a lot of different manufacturers. Once you factor in the expense of American regulations and taxes, a company would need to sell a lot of units in order to make any money..

So? 305 is just fine when you've got 4 passengers, luggage, and a snowstorm. Have fun w/ that in a stang... I love stangs but they aren't the same class. I get their point about Hp numbers but its also a 4-cyl
@matt are you referring to a mustang gt? The v6 mustang is the base model with 305hp ~$22k, the GT is a V8 with 420hp. Not the car they are referring to above.
It's true, the actual Impreza is heavy. I remember that the first Impreza GT had a weight of only 1250 Kg, and it was already AWD.

The mustang point illustrates the lack of any advancement in output the STi for years, and the lack of wrc competition is simply unacceptable when you are selling the cars based on this non existent lineage. Surprised you dare point that out carbuzz!
I hate seeing Ford do so well in rally competitions with the Fiesta, because if you compare a stock fiesta with an STi, there's no competition, yet I hear people say how awesome fiestas are (probably due to Ken Block)
This is Verdier's car. The Tanaka team ran a rwd Impreza too. They're super easy to convert, (just weld the center diff) but these cars have Nissan rear diffs and custom sub-frames because the stock rear can't handle the power.

@Patrick, I say G8. It's more unique and in my opinion looks better. A G8 GXP would be pretty awesome. Too bad they're kind of hard to come by.
