Ford Announces New Vans, SUVs and More for Europe

European Ford dealers are about to get a whole raft of new vehicles to sell, including an updated Fiesta, new Mondeo and new Transit and Tourneo Connect vans, plus the arrival of the Mustang, Edge and EcoSport.

Ford may be an American automaker first and foremost, but it is arguably more entrenched in the European market than any of its Michigan neighbors. So we shouldn't be too surprised that the Blue Oval automaker has got a whole raft of new products lined up for Europe. Rather than wait a couple of weeks until Paris, Ford held its own Go Further event in Amsterdam, where it unveiled the new Mondeo sedan and a refreshed Fiesta hatchback. But that's not all Ford had in store for the European mega event.

Alongside the Mondeo and Fiesta, Ford showcased a pair of new vans, announced a couple of SUVs and confirmed that it will officially offer the Mustang in Europe, producing it in right-hand drive for the UK and other such markets. The vans include an all-new Transit and Tourneo Connect. The Transit represents a vital product for Ford, favored as it is by just about anyone with something to move in overseas markets, but it won't be confined to Europe any longer. The new Transit will replace the old E-Series in the United States as well, all part of Ford's product globalization campaign.

Buyers will be able to specify the new Transit with a variety of body styles, wheelbase lengths, engines and drivetrain configurations to make the new Transit one of the most adaptable and versatile vehicles on the market. The Tourneo Connect is also new, taking styling cues from the Focus for a shaper look. Expect it to be sold as the Transit Connect in certain markets as well. Together with the vans, Ford also revealed plans at the Go Further event to offer the EcoSport compact crossover, previously exclusive to the Far East, to the European market.

While the EcoSport sails west, the North American-market Ford Edge will sail east to meet it in Europe as well, book-ending an expanding SUV range for Ford, with the new Kuga (aka Escape) sitting in the middle. The new Mondeo, Fiesta, Transit, Tourneo Connect and the arrival of the Mustang, Edge and EcoSport represent an enormous revitalization of Ford's line-up for Europe, one that will significantly overhaul the presence in Ford's showrooms across the continent in the coming months.
