Comments - Armored Opulence: Hyundai Equus Armored

Published: Jan 22, 2013
Description: This is kind of a weird one. The armored Equus is the sort of thing which might have normally slid by undetected with all of the other run-of-the-mill converted armored sedans, but a recent effort on ...

Bottom line is that no car company in the world can do luxury as good as Europeans. Everything else is copycat and its also just ok compared to to Europe...
Carissa Wilson Jan 24, 2013
This car is like buying the "iPod" MP3 player at the dollar store. It looks like an iPod, but it's cheap plastic and breaks in two seconds.
Jason Brown Jan 23, 2013
Matt, sorry I wasn't clear. To drive it is not nearly as enjoyable. This car is a cruiser. But luxury, it is par more comfortable than most German rivals.
Matt Piccolo Jan 23, 2013
@ Jason, if u mean far as in not nearly as nice or enjoyable to drive, you're bang on sir.
Jason Brown Jan 22, 2013
That may be true, but it wasn't that long ago where certain famous companies who set trends also copied the industry standards. If you drive or sit in an Equus, it is far from any competitor. Especially any European rival.
Janak Solanki Jan 22, 2013
@Jason, I agree that these companies have to evolve. I just wish that they would take their own styling direction. Most manufacturers set themselves apart. I just think that there is too much in this car that does not seem like an original idea.
Joe Kanser Jan 22, 2013
I love it when people talk out of their rears on something they know nothing about. Go sit in and drive an Equus, you won't be disappointed and realize it is in a class of its own.
Jason Brown Jan 22, 2013
Janak, please fundamentally show us what EXACTLY they took from blueprints of other manufactures? Successful companies evolve by reinventing ideas and products.
Tyler Tarbox Jan 22, 2013
@Janak. This wouldn't hurt your image one bit. If you notice it doesnt have a single Hyundai badge on it
Janak Solanki Jan 22, 2013
I'm sure it's a nice car. Fundamentally what bothers me is the fact that Mercedes, BMW, and Audi laid out the blueprint. These guys just took the tech, never really created anything new. They just picked and chose what they liked about the others.
Matt Piccolo Jan 22, 2013
Never liked these. Been in one @ the Toronto auto show and I was very disappointed considering what this car is "suppose" to be targeting. Theirs a reason it's WAY less than it's competitors
Cian Mac Gearailt Jan 22, 2013
I suppose you can spend the saved money on a driver because it most likely doesn't drive very well
Rakesh Senthivelan Jan 22, 2013
People respect the GTR because its a bang for your buck, even though its made by Nissan. Its the same fundamental for this. It may be made by Hyundai, but it gives you luxury that rivals more expensive cars
Janak Solanki Jan 22, 2013
Yea, and your image becomes a bargain too. For 70k I would get a bangin German Sedan.
Ethan Amo Jan 22, 2013
I actually think its a bargain for what you get with it
Tyler Tarbox Jan 22, 2013
Love this car! If you've never been inside one you wouldn't understand but the interior is stunning. So comfortable and just a nice place to sit. All for around $70K and rivals cars costing twice that or more. Good work Hyundai
Janak Solanki Jan 22, 2013
I hate this WANNABE car and everything it stands for. Get a Benz instead.
Scuttle Buttocks Jan 22, 2013
Ugh those trim lines below the headlights are horrible IMO
Drew Humphrey Jan 22, 2013
I like the grille but yeah the ornament is a little much
David Munasinghe Jan 22, 2013
They need that grill on the US model.
Ian Barger Jan 22, 2013
I hate the Rolls Royce hood ornament copy.
Michael Gallagher Jan 25, 2013
Reminds me of garbage. No one has "class" in any kind of Hyundai
Zaire Wilkins Jan 22, 2013
Reminds me of the maxima at this angle
Jackson Michael Jan 22, 2013
Ya from the 19th century
Jordan Smith Jan 22, 2013
Dolt? Is this some sort of new street lingo I'm not aware of?
Janak Solanki Jan 22, 2013
Ok Joe. Enjoy your Hyundai.
Joe Kanser Jan 22, 2013
Janak: you're a dolt
Janak Solanki Jan 22, 2013
Copycat
Scuttle Buttocks Jan 22, 2013
Dated LS maybe?
Description: The Equus is actually an older vehicle than very many people outside of South Korea realize. The car which we have in the US is actually the second generation of the Equus, which debuted here a year a...

I can see where the mistake can be made. The first export Equus was in 1999. And the current one is the second generation since then...
Jason Brown Jan 22, 2013
CarBuzz, correct your info. Equus first came out in1989 in Korea. This is not the second generation.
Description: The second generation of the car debuted in 2009, and the new car has virtually nothing in common with the old car apart from the name. For the second generation, Hyundai started building an armored v...

@Isaac, like Toyota with Lexus & Nissan with Infinity. The Koreans are just trying to do it a bit faster.
Isaac Jacob Jimenez Jan 24, 2013
Hyundai started out as a super economic car that wasn't of high quality. So can they just out of the blue decide they want to go premium when they are legendary for crap? Seems like some kind of conspiracy...
Ashton Summers Jan 23, 2013
@Zaire, like screenplays.
Zaire Wilkins Jan 22, 2013
What ppl still dont get is that they have car designs sitting around for years and they just pick whatever is right for the time.
Ashton Summers Jan 22, 2013
@ Aiden. Agreed, some how this car takes the heat for copying when the Germans pretty much copy each other. This is actually different. And again, if you're going to steal, steal from the best.
Janak Solanki Jan 22, 2013
It's like a LA celebrity imposter. Every one knows its not the real thing.
Aiden Bass Jan 22, 2013
My god can anybody appreciate a god damn car?! Always accusing and comparing, and if it was an exact copy, I'm pretty sure Lexus would sue instantly
Bert Kelly-Johnston Jan 22, 2013
Where's the originality - same place as years of Lexus LS designs - in the Mercedes design studio!
Eric Anthony Jan 22, 2013
They must be doing something right if you & others are hating that much on Hyundai.
Janak Solanki Jan 22, 2013
Hello? Where is the originality??
Bala Uncc Jan 22, 2013
Yes but it cost you only the price of GS and that's the idea.
Tho MA Jan 22, 2013
Without the hood thingy
Tho MA Jan 22, 2013
Looks like a carbon copy of my LS 470

See there's the proof. They can't do anything on their own so they work with others or just hire people that used to work with other companys
Description: But you can even buy your own armored Equus right here in the US, with a firm known as Alpine Armoring offering an Equus as one of its lineup of dozens of vehicles. Standard factory armored Equus mode...

The chairman was done under licence on an E class Merc platform. Was made to look like an S class. Not like lots of others from SsangYong which seemed to see 'different' as the most desirable styling trait.
Dale Schroeder Jan 22, 2013
Beating Ssangyong in quality isn't really all that difficult, from what I've been led to believe. I've heard nothing but negatives about that brand.
Bala Uncc Jan 22, 2013
Aimed right at Lexus
Jose Natal Gonçalves Feb 22, 2013
Great interior! But put a little more space!
Jason Brown Jan 23, 2013
Jt* D@mn auto correct
Jason Brown Jan 23, 2013
It, this is the same color scheme for black leather option in just about all luxury segment cars.
Jt Collier Jan 23, 2013
i think dark wood looks like crap with black, use a lighter wood and perhaps it wouldnt evoke a mid 90's Buick. granted i think its a great interior. colours just blow
Tyler Tarbox Jan 22, 2013
From the back seat this is better than an A8, 7 series, or S class
Jordan Nishida Jan 22, 2013
That's a pretty cool interior.
Cian Mac Gearailt Jan 22, 2013
I think from the back seat its not to far off the 7 series or a8 or s class
Tyler Tarbox Jan 22, 2013
That's a lot of rear leg room
Dale Schroeder Jan 22, 2013
I would've expected a little more rear legroom, given this is supposed to be VIP transportation.
Pablo Herasme Jan 22, 2013
Not bad

it is pretty sharp
supra_mkiv Jan 22, 2013
it's still a nice luxury vehicle
Janak Solanki Jan 22, 2013
I'm sure that there are lot of talented Korean designers. They should let them express themselves and innovate new designs that no one else has seen.
Nodnarb Ydil Jan 22, 2013
Korean vehicles haven't ever really been known for their originality. Shouldn't come as a surprise
Adam Beiersdorfer Jan 22, 2013
The Equus actually isn't a Benz Copy... It's a Lexus LS... Their was a magazine article that had a cover with half the Equus front end on one side, and the LS on the other... Surprise surprise, it matched up pretty much perfectly...
Ian Barger Jan 22, 2013
Mercedes copy.
Michael Bychkov Feb 13, 2013
Armored Equus is being homologated in Germany and will be available soon!
Jt Collier Jan 23, 2013
