Huayra Sets New Lap Record at Top Gear Track

WARNING: If you don't want details from the first episode of season 19 of Top Gear, then stop reading now. That is all.

For those who didn't catch the season 19 premiere of Top Gear last night and don't want any surprises given away, stop reading this now. For those who are still with us, perhaps the biggest news of the night was that the Pagani Huayra set a new record on the test track for a street legal supercar with a time of 1:13.8. Pagani's Zonda R had a time of 1:08.5 and the Ferrari FXX, driven by Michael Schumacher, came in at 1:10.7. Thing is, neither of those two are anywhere near street legal.

So the Huayra was faster than the Ariel Atom V8 (1:15.1) and the McLaren MP4-12C (1:16.2) as well as other supercars such as the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport and Lamborghini Aventador. The Huayra is powered by an AMG-built twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 with 700 horsepower and 811 lb-ft of torque. It can go from 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds and has a top speed of 235 mph. The Huayra may not keep this record for long, however. With the pending arrival of the Ferrari F150, McLaren P1 and the Porsche 918 Spyder, a new record may soon be made.
