Mercedes Updates E-Class Coupe & Cabrio

Facelifted versions of the E-Class coupe and convertible revealed ahead of their debut at the Detroit Auto Show.
Mercedes-Benz recently revealed a facelift for the E-Class sedan and wagon, but that's only half the story. One the CLK was discontinued, Mercedes integrated new two-doors into the C- and E-Classes, and has just released the updated version of the latter. The existing E-Class coupe and convertible were both strikingly shaped models, but the newly updated versions take the design a step further, integrating the revisions applied to the four-door models into their svelte shapes.

That translates to new headlights that ditch the quadruple individual elements in favor of two integrated lenses flanking a reshaped grille and topping a more aggressive lower fascia. The rear end has similarly been revised, while the interior has been refreshed as well with a new steering wheel, a column-mounted shift lever in place of the central console shifter. The new coupe and convertible E-Class models also adopt the latest safety and convenience technologies Mercedes has to offer, including the stereo digital eye, collision prevention and active parking assist systems.
Engines carry over unchanged, with gasoline and diesel four-cylinder motors offered overseas but six- and eight-cylinder engines composing the US models. The E350 packs a 302-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 (available with 4Matic all-wheel drive in the coupe), while the E550 carries the 4.6-liter twin-turbo V8 with 402 horsepower. The revised E-Class coupe and convertible will debut at the Detroit Auto Show in a week and a half, with deliveries commencing in the summer. New coupe and convertible versions of the upcomign C- and S-Class families will launch within the next few years, offering an array of choices under the Silver Star brand.
