My mx5 is more fun than my wife's brZ..Fun car but not a true roadster like the 5....test drive one people and see!
I don't care for the cartoonish look of some of the Mazdas, this one included. It's different, and sounds like a wicked fun car though.
I've heard that comment before, this or that is a 'girls car', never understood that. BTW so what if you're driving a ' girl's car' auto or stick, if it's fun to drive, who cares?

Would a miata with a V8 swap still be a girls car? I've see a few in person and they are just a monster, go kart on steroids.

All my interior need to make me happy is a seat to sit in, 3 pedals, a steering wheel and manual trans, if your hot there are windows that can be put down

If you notice Mazda is slowly designing its way out of the "smile" facia that made it a "girls" car. The next gen will follow the new MX5 and will become more of a "smirk" than a smile, already proven to be much more popular than the "smile" with men.
I have a 92 Miata and plan on looking at the all new version when it gets released. Remembering this I own it as a toy not my everyday driver....it's one hell of a toy, so much fun in such an honest little package! It rewards good drivers.
People who hate on the miata are usually either muscle car fanboys or simply haven't driven one.
I own an s2k and I agree its a better car than the miata will ever be, but I have a lot of respect for the mx5. It is a fantastic drivers car that is tons of fun to drive for very cheap.

I'm sick of guys calling this a gay car. This car is nice looking...not feminine at all. It has a body and is not boxy looking like most cars today. The mx5 looks like my old 83 rx7 which no one dared call gay. Gay this gay that!!! It's getting old.
S2k or 2nd gen mr2 over this for sure if we're talking small roadsters.

I read these comments and am left wondering whether I am in the midst of enthusiasts or morons. The miata is an enthusiasts ride and has always been. It's classic and consistently rated in the top lists everywhere. The homophobic comments are offensive unless gay=cool and confident.

Love the mx-5. My brother has a 96 making about 220 whp. It was fun NA and a terror on boost. I like hopping in without opening doors and taking off lol fun cars for sure.
David I'm 6'2/6'3 and drove a mid 90's one head was almost completely over the windshield and I prefer my cars more torquey than the mx5 is just not my preference fun handling though
Exactly Matt, that's what I am saying. The quality and engineering in the s2k is way better than any mx-5 and now you can find an ap1 for 10-15 grand. You drop 10k in to it and its a corvette killer lol.
Yea I'd take an ap1 s2k for 10k Over this anyday.

Most could afford a 911 and it's maintenance cost 10 yrs in is not on this app browsing to kill time. Lol. They are busy working to buy their next 911. Why read about other cars when you really own a 911 in my stupid opinions.
Nobody is bashing the S2K, the article simply states that the MX5 is a great drivers car. You don't hear any Porsche owners crying about how their 10 yr old 911 is better.
What's wrong with this write up? The S2000 was and is one of my favorites. But when the base price in 09' was $36,000 it was out of range for most buyers. Today you can get a 2013 MX5 and a $4000 turbo kit, and still be $7000 under the 09' S2K
A 10 year old s2000 is twice the car even a brand new miata is and ever will be. These ridiculous write ups crack me up.
I would want this as a first car
Drove my professors Miata a few years back. It was fun for sure, just not enough power to throw you back into the seat. Not my type of car.
I wouldn't ever buy one but if someone were to give me one or I won one on a game show I'd probably keep it and turn it into an auto-x car.
I think the biggest difference from other cars in this category is the price. It has less power compared to a Lotus, Porsche Boxter, or Bimmer (Z3?), but handles with the best of them. And it's not underpowered, you just get to push it a little more

I have never had a chance to drive one, but it's funny how everybody says that it's a lot of fun to drive and this makes me even more eager to know what makes this car different from other cars in the same category...please?

I love the older ones, the flip up lights. BTW I'm 6'4" and really overweight and I fit perfect in that car.

Not sure too many convertibles would've survived that crash either. Without a roof the car could most definitely fold in half. The MX-5 isn't a freeway car anyways, it's made for twisting/winding back roads.

And I used to think highly of the mx-5 before seeing how poorly Toyota had reinforced the body.
I will never ever own a mx-5. That's because I saw one wrecked on the freeway the other day. It had hit the wall and then was rear ended and when it was rear ended, the car folded in half, so the trunk and dash were touching and it killed the driver

I'd have a hardtop MX-5 but I'd have to have a second car for a DD. The MX-5 doesn't have enough trunk space for me. It's still a fun drive.

Dylan, I'm 6'0 tall. I've driven 2 MX-5's. the latest gen has the most leg room. I've driven the Mazdaspeed MX-5 the factory turbo'd version. It's a lot of fun. You hate the MX-5 because you've never driven one.
Why is it the best anyway?
These are super fun cars but I'd nvr buy one myself. I'll take an fr-s any day. These are too "happy."
