2 seconds of a lap is alot of time and some1 like the stig wont lose them , u still cant take the lap into account as these tires make a huge diffrence and all cars tested must be standard <3 Pagani

@ryan - they already admitted to using grooved slicks. the loophole is they claim they will provide the same grooved slicks to customers as a factory option. it's all technically legal, just very cheaty and imo unnecessary.

You may be right I looked further into it I don't think pagani did that though and if they did wouldn't the tires end up having pretty much the same levels of grip as the factory tires of the same compound
Plus u can't compare your results with street tires on your jeep vs professionals with the correct tools and racing slicks
Ryan u also need to take into account that these are professionals and do these things for a living, just cause yours went to shit fast doesn't make it a fact, many racing teams takeracing slicks and cut groves into them to make them rain tires... If u use the correct tools it wworks perfectly find
Out will rip it to pieces I cut the tread on my jeeps mud tires the areas I cut before the tires got stollen degraded all to shit and I never drove more then 15 miles on them at a time my point is if they took the slicks and cut a tread pattern
Shaving a tire is completely different the problem with actually cutting into a tire is it makes it ware incredibly quickly because the edges on the cuts in the tire no longer have a smooth heat cured edge so running a tire like that on a track balls
I've seen a bunch of tires get shaved in pits. TireRack.com will shave your tires down to 4/32" before they ship to have sticky rubber ASAP.
Tires are important, wouldn't you want the best? Pagani's tires are DOT approved and are street legal and offered with the car. Totally fair. Pagani is awesome. They build a car so well that people have to make lame excuses.
@Ben You are seriously one of the most ignorant commenters in the history of this site. Many tires are made specially for cars. Veyron, Viper, and Corvette all have special tires. It's nothing new.
@Ryan You r wrong. It is possible to cut a tread pattern into a tire. Seen it done on a few cars and the first time I saw it was on a mustang, they cut a mustang head tread pattern into the tire. Not saying pagani did this just saying its possible.
@ben Most people who buy the Huayra aren't worried about driving it in all kinds of weather. If you planned on going to the track often with it, then why wouldn't you order the best tires. If the customer can buy it, then it is not cheating.
So basically y'all all fighting over that all super, sport and hyper cars should run the same tire for each particular track crazy!! Then they should weigh, have the same power numbers and so on. These type arguments never get solved
Go back to the article from yesterday and look at the tread pattern of the tires on the pagani sitting on the test gear track
The tread pattern on the cars tires in the actual photo matches the p zero trofeo on there website

Srt will be putting the Pirelli trofeo on the viper now so the r compound street legal tires are readily available and used as standard equipment by many manufacturers
Temperature like with a slick regardless of compound pagani did not cheat they used the tire option available in the factory trim Porsche puts the same level tire from Michelin on the gt3 and rs models gm puts the Michelin on the z06 and zr1 also

The third tire option is not modified slicks they are made from the same compound as slicks but it is not possible to cut a tread pattern into a tire tires are extruded with the tread pattern pressed into the malleable hot rubber during the extrusion

This makes me think of the Viper article from 2/24.... SRT went back to Pirelli to obtain a more aggressive tire option for the Viper after the Corvette performed so well on its stickier tires. Sounds like a mature response to a competitors advantage

who in their right mind would order grooved slicks?? You'd have to break all kinds of laws to get them up to operating temperature and they would dangerous on the street just running cold. technically, yes, it's street legal so the time will stay.

This in fact isn't close to cheating. It is one of three factory options that is street legal. Legit lap. The rules are everything has to be street legal and it was.

Ok when I read about this yesterday I was annoyed that they had put different tyres on for the hot lap. But if its an option that is offered to general customers then it doesn't matter, tyres were legal n the lap time is good

Of its an option that is offered to their customers, then in no way is it cheating. If no other company does this that is there problem. Complaining it used the best it offers is like complaining some cars used to much carbon fiber instead of aluminum
Weather it had slicks or not(which it technically didn't) it's still a badass car, people are just jealous cause they don't like it

In the defense of all cars that make a track run wouldn't you want the best tire for that particular track they just made a better choice. That being said love the craftsmanship of this car

No there not used as air brakes, they don't go verticle enough to apply that kind of force, but u are correct with the rest though.. Really a genius idea probably my favorite feature on the car
Pablo there not airbrakes, there self adjusting spoilers used to adjust down force at all 4 corners on the fly
I like the when the airbrakes are deployed, but I don't think it has much function since this car can stop pretty quick

Corsa have the long curved tread pattern, and the trofeo have a bunch if small verticle lines cut in them
I read the article, but what makes u think these are the trofeo, u can simply Google the corsa tire and see the direct match, the trofeo were only used for the hot lap, all the other footage was on the corsa tires
Just check jalopnik. Unless they are wrong, they make it very clear what pagani said and which tires are which.
No there not cause if u Google the trofeo and corsa u can see the pattern, just cause there torn up doesn't make then the trofeo, remember Hammond beat on the car also but he was using the standered corsa tires, when stig went to do the lap the tires were changed... Pagani was just smart and used there better track purpose street tire instead of the OEM factory ones
@william, these are the modified zonda R or "trofeo" tires that were used during the lap, not the corsas. At least according to jalopnik (who actually spoke to pagani) they are.
Marcos these are the pirelli corsa tires, not the specially cut trofeo tires, while I agree pagan in should have used the stock tires like everyone else, but top gear rules just say its gotta be a factory option... I still think it would have beaten the lap record regardless just not by as much.

This tire isn't street legal. It's what's on the zonda r. They cut groves in it to make it legal.
These are the trofeo tires used on the zonda R witch this car is, the trofeo pagani uses for the huyara are are groved to make them street legal... Pagani fallowed the rules, tires just have to be factory, pagani was smart and tossed on one of there optional tires, its not cheating. They apparently understood the rules better
or not. But either way, this car is still extremely capable and probably still quicker than the atom if not the same on "normal" tires.
The last pic after the stig pic are the trofeos they used these are actual slicks for comparisons. The trofeos may be street legal but they are not supposed to be used in heavy rain so I guess it's still up for debate whether it was completely fair

Yes this is the zonda, not the huyara notice the different shock mount, but this is the trofeo tire, crazy that that's street legal, but like already stated deffinatly not street safe

if tread depth is shallow..it doesn't channel water from the tire surface effectively..this creating a slick surface, therefore, hydroplaning.
These are the corsa tires not the trofeo tires, top gear says tires just have to be street legal and a factory option, everyone else always just send there cars bone stock, pagani fallowed then rules they got smart and took advantage of there options, not really paganis fault no one else thought to do so

sure you could use these on the street in dry conditions, but in no way they are safe. Love the car..but I still wave the bs flag
basically all I see is a soft compound tire with grooves..so they are "wet" slicks..so that makes them street legal? I guarantee any amount of water on the road and you'd hydro right into a tree...

1.3 seconds at 0 mph is nothing. But think of it this way, 1.3 seconds at average track speed of 80mph is quite large! 1.3 seconds in a 60 lap race is huge! Especially on a track that take 1 and a half minutes to complete. It would lap 2nd place
Track times are always extremely tight every spit second counts if you think about 1.3 seconds in le mans every lap its an immense amount of time
1.3 sec...? That's like what blinking 3 times un a row.? How can beating out the other car by 1.3 sec smashing the record?
